It looks great. I was able to run it at 1920x1200 with all eye candy maxed out. When a grenade goes off nearby, you KNOW a grenade went off nearby, lol.

I didn't display FPS, guess I should have, but it was nice and smooth except for when the server(s) lagged *everybody*.

Played from about 8pm till 3am, guess I was having fun. :)

honeslty, going into the water from the sewers on anzio with AA/AF and HDR is incrediable. The wet rocks + water = incrediable. Also I noticed that my frame rate is also prety low 40-60 w/ full HDR 4AA 8 AF @1280x1024. Im used to over 100 always in cs:s but for some reason in dod 40-60 feel like 100+

Well after playing the game I stick by what I said, the graphics are not as good as BF2. Close, but not quite. Maybe it's just my preference. The gameplay feels pretty much the same as the old version, which I never liked much. Too many people all spawning in a small area makes for a really hectic, Quake type of play. Just feels cheesy to me. I wish there was a demo so I could have saved myself 20 bucks.

PS. HDR full mode worked fine here on a vanilla X800.

It really must be. Again on a thread a few days ago I rated BF2 as the best graphics out at the time, but DOD-S blows them away in every area.... every texture is complete and gorgeous... BF2 does have beautiful larger scenery like in Kubra but DOD-S is at a different level imo.

I do wish there were larger DOD-S levels though kinda like HL2DM

PS, what monitor are you guys using?

I know that HL2 was like a totally different game when I went from a 1024x7 LCD to my sweet and gorgeous Dell 2005FPW

The smoke looks like crap in those screens. have you seen the explosions and smoke in COD2? they are something to be marvelled. The gameplay in COD2 seems better to me as well, it just feels more exciting.

Until developers start making use of decent bump mapping and or displacement mapping, FPSes will *never* look like a movie. When you get flush up against a brick wall (or a bridge [in the screenies above]) and the rendering is completely flat it really ruins the effect. Even mediocre bump mapping gives the illusion of depth.

True TGS, agreed. Textures should become more detailed as you draw closer.

The smoke is actually very well done in DOD s

Arghhhh, I don't get it for free with my HL2 Collector's Edition key. So screw them. I hate steam ;)

Try firing up HL2, it'll download a huge update and then you'll have HDR in HL2. Looks durn good (especially the flashlight, but also the setting sun), not worth the drop in frames IMO - I'd rather run my 4Xaa8Xaf. From all the ranting on the forums, I was under the impression that only nvidia cards could even run HDR at all, and was ready to laugh at the ATI gamers who said "I'm running HDR!" - until, imagine my surprise, I fired up HL2 and it had the option for full HDR!!!!! (it was even the recommended setting). I'm running an X800XT.

There is a HDR (which is used by Farcry) that is only available with SM3.0 cards. Valve created their own HDR that they devloped to keep from toasting computers and works with all DX9 vid cards.

Wait so Can Ati cards run HDR like in the pics of the site? are were those done with sm 3.0? because i saw HDR difference on 2.0b and 3.0 and there was no Friggin difference, HDR is not SM 3.0 the only difference is displacement mapping and it looks liek thres till bump mapping.

I hate how people automatically think HDR is sm 3.0, that was only far cry

There is a much larger performance hit in 2.0b mode

Sorry to word it that way it was develop for use with SM3.0 and will be inlcuded on pretty much all SM3.0 capable cards.

Again the Pictures are niether version of HDR. It is a in house development, prepriatory, implementation of HDR and is compatible with all DX9 cards and allows us to use AA (which is something all of the other ones don't let you do).
