What kind of system specs are we talking? I wonder if I could play it right now.
If it's no harsher than half life half life will run on pretty well anything. If you have a TNT card and a P2 450 you're set.

The new rain, fog and smoke totally torture the frame rate. Its much much worse now, but it wont matter to those of us with 2ghz and Radeons.
Hmm...I have a celeron 1000 with a gf3, but I'm gonna see if I can get half life installed again.

BTW anybody wanting this the top france server linked on the main site in downloads I'm getting 150k/sec from.
France is finally good for something!

I guess I've got to wait then... It'd probably toast my video card. :D

So, briefly, how is this different than bf1942? I don't really feel like installing half life again..

So you need to have the full version of halflife to play? Damnit first I lose my CD cover with the Serial on it, now the the CD is gone too. Oh well, this looks like a crappy clone of MOHAA.

I think DOD is better than BF1942 and MOHAA:

However, if they had BF1942 gameplay mixed with the DOD classes (weapons) you would have the PERFECT fps MP game. DOD needs bazookas REALLY BAD as well as Japs!!!!

Current download speed is 350+ KB/s :)

UPDATE: I read the website, it didnt mention bazookas, then I played it, it is pretty cool. I hate the gun smoke. Just doesnt look right, sucky graphics (I have a GF4 Ti 4200,), pings are too high, and bazookas dont do any damage unless you do a direct hit. They should at least act like RPGs, (rocket propelled grenades).

I gave in and downloaded it. Mostly improvements over 3.1, the new lighting/fog effects are cool. Now you can tell who your teammates are by an icon over their heads (takes away from the realism a bit). The explosions in some maps look worse than in 3.1 but on the Omaha beach map it is very well done. This game reminds me of MOH:AA a lot.

DOD now has bazookas. You cant pick them, you have to find them on the floor, so theyre rare enough that they dont unbalance. BTW, you can now drop and pick up other peoples weapons.

MOHAA is fun and all, but it feels like ww2 quake. BF1942 is cool, but its a totally different experience. It revolves around vehicles, not burned out cities.

DOD is still on top, and this version is a huge improvement. Doesnt seem as easy to camp and dominate anymore. Pistols are actually useful, and all the weapons have been slightly tweaked. The carbine now kicks ass instead of being a puny waste.

And the new maps are all good. Ever since 3.0 there has only been two maps worth playing, caen and avalanche. The rest are too big, unbalanced, or just plain annoying because if you do anything but camp youre automatically dead.

Donner and chemille are fun, like thunder but not as dark. The new beach map charlie, actually gives the allies a chance. I miss the days of hiding in a corner on omaha and wasting the axis with the garand, but overall, its a far more balanced, and FUN game now. I hear people bitching about the new crosshair, but it actually far more accurately indicates your aim.

The only drawback is that the sound are terrible, but once you replace them with some cs realism 4.0 pack sounds, its got to be the coolest sounding game I've ever played. Just be prepared to deal with two types of whiners:

1. Waaaah my frame rate is so loooooow! I get 10fps blah blah....get a new video card, this is 2003, a GF1 isnt gonna cut it.
2. Waaaah, its not exactly like DOD 3. Thats cause DOD 3 sucked compared to DOD 1. Its actually fun again, now that the game isnt dominated by a select few.

I like it overall, but there are some things that I don't like.

Pros:

1) Excellent graphics. Very much improved.
2) GUI improved, in particular the map.
3) Stats for the different guns on the class selection screen.
4) Maps are all great. Better balance and they look better than ever.
5) Get to play as the Brits! :D

Cons:

1) Stupid tip screens. Yes, I know you can turn them off. Still...
2) Icons above your teammates heads. At first I thought this was cool, but then I realized it detracted from the realism too much.
3) Auto-reload. One of the things I liked a lot about the game was that it made you hit the reload key to reload, even when you run out of ammo. Now it is automatic, and it doesn't feel right.
4) When you die, it now points you to who shot you and highlights their name, so you know exactly where they are. While this might elminate campers, I think camping is a valid tactic particularly for snipers and machineguns. Now they can't hide anymore because after killing someone the first time they know exactly where you are. I used to love thinking about where that damn sniper was, sneaking around a back way, and finding out I was right (as I put a knife or shovel into the back of his head). Now it points me right to where he is when I die. This sucks.
