Day 5 of not having a DVR...

So the pain continues. I have gone 5 days now without a DVR at home. We had the total home dvr from insight and it was fucking up and resetting all of our cable boxes every few minutes so I had to unplug it.

Cable guy won't be here til tomorrow morning.

I never realized how much I rely on that damn thing. Having to catch a show when it actually comes on is crazy. Sitting through commercials is bullshit.

It's been a long five days, I'm glad it's almost over. If it wasnt for netflix and MW3 I would have probably lost my mind by now.

My wife is the same way, a couple days without it and she goes nuts. I'm more upset when the internet goes out, I hate using our crappy dvr box, it just keeps reminding me that I need to build an htpc everytime I use it.

I've had cable and dvrs for a long time. Why can't they get their shit together? My parents have Dish and have never had problems with theirs. I have buddies who have direct tv and they never have problems with their dvrs.

I used to have the motorolla dvrs but those things are junk. They a freeze and skip when you record hd and watch hd at the same time. I figured the new total home model would be better, but nope. It sucketh a big fat one as well.

May be time to ditch cable or get a tivo.

Refreshing honesty ... wow.

OP, how old are you? Do you have any experiences from before DVRs, cell phones, etc? When is the last time that you read a good book? The more time you spend off the crack ... the easier it is to live again.

31.

Yes.

Last book I read was Hunger Games a couple months ago (before holidays). Getting ready to start the next in the series. That's not including school books.

I love my crack.

Electronics are like crack apparently. AAPL has it all figured out lmao.

I was thinking about it the other day though. Smartphones & Internet are a bad combination. I'm way more productive when I'm unplugged.

Came in for the tubesocks and pudding,

left disappointed. 🙁

If only there were something like the Internet where you could download or stream your favourite television programs...

I find it harder the older I get to justify time in front of a tv. I always have something useful I can do it seems like. Split wood, exercise, clean the house, pay bills, spend time with my wife, etc..

I'm very efficient with my time when I get home (which is about an hour and a half before my wife) by the time 9 - 9:30 comes around my wife and kid are already in bed, i've played/spent time with them and am finished or finishing homework. That leaves about a 2 hour window for my TV time which has been royally fucked without my DVR.

Cable company DVR's are overpriced crap. Put together a decent HTPC with a cable card and use an Xbox 360 for an extender in your bedrooms. The upfront cost is a little more but when your saving $50+ a month and have a more stable system with a superior interface it's worth it.

I'd lose so much content if my DVR went out. I have tons and tons of shows and movies my wife and I will start working through once we finish up a few seasons of a TV show we're watching on streaming.

We tend to like to let a bunch of episodes to build up for the shows we like on the DVR and then watch them in bulk.

What system do you play MW3 on? If PS3 my game tag is in my sig.

I pretty much just play on my 360. I have a ps3 but I get caught up in the achievments on the 360 so if there is something multiplatform I get it for the 360

Ps3-LookBehindYou (i think)

I still have a Tivo series 2 80 hour box w/ lifetime service contract, and it's going strong for the most part. I thought it was dying a few years ago (it was locking up every few months), but it's only frozen once the past 2-3- years. It doesn't do high-def, but for what I use it for I don't need HD.

And yes - I do dread the day it finally goes out for good.
