So relics big announcement of a new game is what I suppose to be Dawn of War 3.

"There's going to be lots of opportunities to expand and build your own custom mega army. The war that rages eternal, and make that feel like that's really imposing and all around you, and you have your own personal, custom army in there. Your army and my army should feel very different. That's where we would like to get to."

I personally thought it was going to be a new Company of Heroes, I'm kinda disappointed.

As far as I know, they haven't officially released information as to whether they'll be releasing Dawn of War III or a Dawn of War II expansion pack number 3.

As for Company of Heroes 2... how do you beat CoH 1? And what material can you add in so that it's not just 'another WW2 game'?

Maybe a game like company of heroes in a different era, possibly modern times. I know world of conflict pulled something like this off, but I really think the guys at relic can do something new and fresh.

I never played the expansions, but I found DoW2's campaign was boring as hell. Things got repetitive fast. That on top of the laggy Games for Windows Live matchmaking turned me off completely.

I also found it boring and repetitive.

DOW2 was boring as hell.

Bring back an updated DOW1, and I may consider buying this game, because after DOW2, I feel betrayed.

They could add in more places, like Russia and North Africa. Add in more air stuff. Add in more of a linked campaign idea with more stuff and do something with planes (somehow).

If they make another DOW, it needs to be like DOW1.

Could not disagree agree more. Going back to DoW1 style would be a large backwards step for the game.

If anything, they should buff Space Marines and increase the number of models for most other races units... that might give us both what we want.

I can't speak as much for the MP, but I'll agree with those who state the campaign was a huge disappointment. They really turned DoW into an ARPG where the focus was on your super squads mowing down waves of inferior enemies until you get to the boss fight after which you get your phat loot. Rinse and repeat the exact same mission just on a different color map. I was really dissatisfied with how different it was from the first game and haven't bought either expansion as a result.

I, too, would love another CoH. Unfortunately, I think they had planned CoHO as the next phase in that series and that's of course gone down in flames. So it may be awhile yet before they come up with some new concepts for it.

The campaigns in DoW2 sucked, but I thought the multiplayer gameplay was much better than DoW1's.

It'd be neat if they went with a campaign that involved a persistent army, not overpowered units, and each mission is a sort of puzzle for you to solve with what you have. Similar to Homeworld.

Such heretics in this thread, xeno scum!

Seriously though, I'm a sucker for Warhammer 40K material (not just games, but also for table tob, I'm just starting to get some unpainted Craftworld Eldar models recently) and I've played most of the games released for that universe so far, but I started playing the WH40K games and learned its universe thanks to the original game. Then I got to know more about the whole scheme of things of its grand universe later on, and reading the Horus Heresy was a fun kick-start too, I'll never forget it. With that said, my favorite game of the franchise is the original Dawn of War. And I really don't mind the expansion packs, I like them too, especially Dark Crusade, but I also like Soulstorm. Also, I needed Soulstorm specifically anyway since I'm using a third-party mod giving better A.I for skirmishes, namely Dawn of Skirmish (for which I had been a tester, as a side note). Then came DoW 2, and at first I refused to buy it, mostly (but not only) due to the lack of base-building, but also due to the scale of the game and the feel it imposes. Playing with small squads in my book just wouldn't cut it and be completely unfitting the standard from the original (bigger armies, smaller units size).

And later on during a sale I bought it, played the campaign and, to be honest, I thought it was enjoyable, but no, it certainly wasn't as good as the original's. Not to mention that the voice acting quality wasn't very good either in DoW II's campaign (generally speaking). But, the smaller squad sizes, and the lack of base building wasn't a problem for the campaign, after all, it really wasn't when I thought it would be, so I was pleasantly surprised by the result of the new game-play mechanics. Where it fails for me, however, is for the skirmishes. I'm just used to the big battles that I still wage in DoW with the DoS mod (Dawn of Skirmish) and I cannot for the life of me "get into" the feel and tactics required to play with the DoW II's mechanisms. So, when it comes to DoW II then I simply stick with The Last Stand, rare skirmishes against the A.I., and from time to time some extra action in the campaigns with increased difficulty is welcome. And sure, all of that applies to both expansions as well which of course I also own.

Really, knowing myself well enough, I could say anything I want due to uncertainty about future DoW games, but I'll end up buying Space Marines this October. And if Relic indeed develops Dawn of War 3 and they still end up with the same small squad sizes and no base building recipe then I'll buy it anyway. But, if they do not only make DoW 3 but on top of that (awesome news, if true, for me anyway) also come back to the original "roots" and ends up being comparable to DoW 1 (or even better) then I will be a very, very happy man. But there's one thing, I can't exactly say that I "miss" DoW 1 anyhow, since I play it regularly anyway, when I'm tired of the few skirmishes I do play in DoW 2 then of course nothing stops me from launching Soulstorm and enjoy skirmishes that often end up lasting up to two or three hours which I also often have to save and resume another time since they're so epic.

I say, long live to Dawn of War 1 and its expansions, and welcome to a DoW 3, if true.

Dawn of War was about massive battles and territory control on huge maps. Dawn of War 2 was about your main commander having a couple goonies with him while you slap each other over one of 5 control points.

I felt severly disappointed with how small a scale the second game was.

company of heroes was so massively fun online, I lost months of my life to it. The only downside is that it used the crappy online networking that seems to plague relic games. The single player campaign was very fun and had a pretty decent backstory to it as well.

I wouldn't mind another company of heroes. Generic genre aside, there's a lot of stuff they could do with it in a modern setting. The pace was pretty good, and the effect of having a panther or sherman roll through the front lines was fantastic.

I'd like to see DoW 3 kind of go into an army management type deal for the campaign. You fly around in your cruiser or whatever, build up available forces and drop them into missions that play out somewhere between DoW1/2. Multiplayer they could honestly do sort of the same thing. You could either have prebuilt armies you just get to call in at will so the game plays more like Myth: The Fallen Lords or you have a "deck" of available units in your army and you can call units into battle from that deck with resources you secure from map control during the game. Either way, I don't think base building is very fitting for Warhammer.
