David Letterman: An Icon? You tell me I need your feedback!

David Letterman is definetly a TV icon... one day we'll look back on him and compare him to Johnny Carson and other late night greats. Letterman is truly a funny person who is very smart and entertianing. Unlike Leno, who's television show seems more like an hour long Stand up act.

Letterman is a mindless uninformed idiot who thinks he's really important. Ohh, his show isn't funny either.
 
The way i think of an icon, i wouldn't say that he is. It really depends on your defintion. He just doesn't seem to have the same level of fame as a Marilyn Monroe or madonna(to name a few. Then again, within the tv world, it may be a different story.

I don't *hate* letterman, but I strongly dislike him. I don't like him because he uses his "entertainment" show as a platform to spew his liberal ideology. For example, see how his interviews of Bush and Gore last year. He was almost openly hostile towards Bush, attacking Bush's positions (especially Alaska) while being totally uninformed.

putting all that aside, it seems like to me, that Letterman was WAAAYYY better on NBC when he was on an hour later. Right now, Leno is better, but I don't watch either of em. Carson was a million times better than either of em.

yep. letterman is probably the best on tv right now though. i liked him better back in the late 70's when he had his show on in the mornings. it was very raw and very funny. is he a tv icon? maybe not right at the moment but he's getting there; after all, he's been doing his show for 20+ years.

a while ago.. she flashed him during the show. Just stood up in front of his desk and lifted up her shirt. Kinda crazy.
 
That little gap-tooth bastid rocks..

He is without a doubt the king of late nite comedy. The only on that could hold a stick to him was Carson
 
Letterman has had his bad tv moments, but his acheivements in late-night comedy far outweigh the bad. I cant stand Leno he is not funny and doesnt make me laugh. Conan on the other hand, is too a comic genuis.

........or maybe these guys just appeal to my kind of humor, who knows?
