A shame, but not unexpected in a city run by corrupt Democrats.
If you're not a rich liberal propagandist, they'll go after you for breaking that law.

Shrug. Those who are rich, famous, or powerful are treated differently than "normal" folks. This isn't new and doesn't matter if you are Red or Blue.

did anyone expect any outcome besides this? i'm not calling for blood, i don't really care, but i think the hypocrisy needs to be pointed out. they could've filed charges and then just given him a slap on the wrist, or accepted a plea of guilty on some trivial charge like disorderly conduct or some such catch-all charge. what if he had pulled an AR-15 out from underneath the desk during that interview?
i think it would've been awesome if Wayne LaPierre had pointed out the illegality of his prop during the interview, on tv.
I dont see what is illegal about it. Arent we suppose to have the right to bear arms? Let me see how you feel during the next riot. Remember the LA riots? Korean Grocers all had AK-47's. They protected their stores and restraunts. '
Maybe you are not old enought to remember things like riots.

I agree that it should be legal, and the courts should strike that law down. Yet last year they arrested over 100 people in Washington DC for violating that law.
Lady Justice should be intelligent. The people who wrote that law did not set out to regulate the display of magazines as props on a TV news program. They were trying to improve public safety (whether you agree with their approach or not). True justice requires intelligent consideration of intent and context, not blind adherence to rigid, no exception rules. That is the issue right there.
Lady justice should be blind.

From the article I linked above:
Influencing our judgment in this case, among other things, is our recognition that the intent of the temporary possession and short display of the magazine was to promote the First Amendment purpose of informing an ongoing public debate about firearms policy in the United States, especially while this subject was foremost in the minds of the public after the Connecticut school massacre and President Barack Obamas address to the nation, D.C. Attorney General Irvin Nathan wrote a lawyer for NBC.Not even the president of the NRA felt it should be prosecuted, showing he's considerably more rational than many of his members:
However, NRA president David Keene told CNN last month that he didnt believe Gregory should be prosecuted for what he called a silly felony.
No, that's not the argument you're making at all: "but I seriously want him to spend a night in jail over this or something". Two wrongs don't make a right. The argument isn't that Gregory should be prosecuted, it's that other people who committed similar "silly felonies" shouldn't have been prosecuted.

Two wrongs still don't make a right. It is not Gregory's fault if D.C. police stupidly abuse their authority. Of course "I forgot" is a pretty lame excuse for breaking the law, so I don't have much sympathy for your Joe Blow either. They also weren't written to prosecute Joe Blow who forgot he had an empty magazine in his trunk from shooting in Virginia last week and was simply passing through DC on his way to the soup kitchen. But the cops don't care about him.
