David Blaine is freaking awesome

Man I have seen this guy before do some of his stunts, like vertigo and when he froze himself int he block of ice for several days, and those were pretty cool. But this guy is prolly the greatest street magician in the world. They are having a show about him on TLC and some of the things he can do are just mind boggling.

Yea dude that guy is incredible. The floating thing is really cool. The card trick where the girl finds her card in her own back pocket is amazing, along with the one when he makes the one card stick behind the glass. Those tricks are awesome.

No more mind-boggling than any other magician. It's all just sleight-of-hand, misdirection and clever staging. Want to know how he pulls off his most famous tricks? You'd be astounded at how truly simple they are, but I don't want to ruin it for you.

What makes them so simple? I mean i realize its sleight of hand and whatnot, but man some of the things he does seem impossible

I already know the levitation and twisting arm ones... are there any others?

Yea, its so easy i see people doing it all the time. I guess because people see the tricks shown on TV they automatically think its easy. Just because you see how to do something doesnt mean you can or anyone else can. Sorry buddy, but I know for sure I wont see you doing that anytime soon. Point is he is amazing. I've read a lot about throwing a baseball, but that doesnt diminish what Pedro Martinez does. I guess some wanna be magicians are jealous. Who knows.

***** SPOILERS******

the ice trick theres several guys that look like him that sit in the stage below where he is and when they're re-freezing the surface ice he makes his switch and the CCTV goes onto a tape loop. oh, and its not all that cold in there either.

****SPOILERS*****

There are a series of shows on Fox called "Street Magic Revealed" where they show you how he does all of his tricks.

IMHO a true "magician" is one who can pull stunts with you sitting in the same room as him.

You're impressed by something you see on broadcast TV?

as i said in the other david blaine thread, he's a great showman but most other magicians think he's a hack. if he does something that appears impossible, then it is. you can do amazing tricks on tv.

The only magician I ever saw in person was Copperfield. He flew around on stage through hoops while carrying some woman, which was pretty impressive.

I agree completely. I was at a bar with a friend of mine. It was just me, my friend, the bartender and this guy. He starts showing the bartender some trick in exchange for a drink. We walked over and he did a couple other tricks.

*I will never forget this* He took MY quarter and pushed a cigarette through it. and yes I checked the date on the quarter that I saw in his hand to make sure it was the same quarter I gave him. He did about four other "mind blowing" tricks and I had to leave cuz it was freaking me out. The guy was evil I tell 'ya.

[edit]. . .and yes, I think David Blaine is awesome also. I don't like Copperfield anymore since I saw the wires, when he was flying around on stage, through some hoops, with some woman. . .

i just met david blaine today at a book signing, and let me tell you he is one cool celebrity. Very nice and took a lot of time with everyone.

As for that geocities site, its pretty lame. Like this one Oh Cmon Now

Its pathetic. He gives the card to a crew member, ok thats cool. But throws the deck and holds onto the recently signed card.

THATS THE WHOLE THING. David Blaine is talented in the art of slight of hand, not in producing unexplainable magic. All his tricks require such practice and perfection that that alone is what should be admired. I bet 10000000 to 1, that if you read how he does a certain trick and then watch it you'll never see him do it.

Its funny how someone people like to downgrade magic, like its some little childs game that you're above. Since the explinations are so simple and so childish to an extent, why arent you out there making millions like David Blaine?

Its because all you can do is explain it, you cant execute it.

Oh yea that ice trick that you think was planned and what not, is impossible. I went down to Manhattan to see this stunt, as well as the pillar stunt, and if you look at the base of his ice block there is no way people can go up and down through the bottom. And there are no camera tricks when you are looking at him in person. So u're telling me he stood on a pillar for 36 hours and switched guys too? Things like that are just super-human feats that dont need explination; just amazement that a human body can withstand such things.

his street tricks are no longer secret, but the stunts that he pulls are still pretty amazing. i remember his upper west side stunt where he lived in the coffin for a week. that ice stuff in times square was too commercialized but still pretty freaky.

Yep David Blaine is awesome. On one of his shows he has Leo. whoever from Titantic. Think thats one of his good friends.

The ice block, pillar, buried alive stunts were not about trickery, but about endurance of the human body. Sure if you seen it on tv then of course you are gonna believe that it was a 'rolling tape' etc. Tell that to the people who stood there in person and watched.

The tricks he does are what they are: tricks, slight of hand. He is good at what he does, and that is entertaining people.

Snapster yep heres really good!

Did you all see that new like street magican on abc family or whatever channel it was? Chris something i think was his name. His first trick he did outside was levitating a lady. It was pretty cool sense it was outside you know. It would be even more amazing to see in person or even be the person he levitates.
