I got some of the really hot limited edition Dave's for my dad one time. He always brags about how he can handle anything hot. I thought I'd spike some salsa with it, and make his eyes pop out. :D So I did spike the salsa, and he LOVED it. Now he mixes two drops in mustard and puts it on his hot dogs and corn dogs. I guess he can handle the hot stuff!

Just wait until it gets to the other end of the digestive tract. You will be farting fire. Go get some Balmex.

Here is everything you need to know about hot sauce. It tells you how hot Dave's is compared to others, and it tells you how hot a sauce could possibly be:

Text

Edit: Blair's 6am is pure capsaicin crystals (cannot get any hotter) and will cost you $125 for 2 oz.
Pure capsaicin is roughly 16 million scoville units.
Dave's Insanity is 50,000 scoville units.

Good God.

I'm stickin' with my flavorful Tabasco. I can enjoy the heat and the taste.

Dave's Ultimate Insanity Sauce has a SR of 90,000

That's really weak compared to some of the other sauces out there. You can find many different kinds that have a SR of about 1-6 million.

Jeez, I've had the both the Insanity and Endorphin Rush sauce's and....my god. There's hotter?

I slather nearly everything in louisiana style hot sauce, (Crystal brand preferably) and the taste is definitely key...never really liked the tabasco flavor. Also the less I get to eat of spicy food, the less tolerance I have for it...not that I won't eat it of course.

Tried the Inanity sauce my freshman year of college (had gotten it from mom over thanksgiving break) by dousing a dorito with it. Holy crap.... My roommate obviously refused to try it after that but we did get a bunch of guys in the hall to try it (laughing to self).

haha. New years party a couple years ago, we dared one of my friends to like about 1/4 the bottles worth of sauce from his hand. He did it for 20 dollars...he was sick the next three days, said it burned worse coming out, and he had stomach pains the next 2 months. I think he also said he started to crap blood out. Good times, good times.

The stuff that's in the 1mill-6mill range is nearly pure capsascin. (the chemical that makes it hot) I believe the one rated 6mill IS pure capsascin. It's not food guys, it's a food additive and they all say it on the bottle.

16 million is pure cap, 6 million is a slightly weaker extract. It really doesn't matter, nobody on earth can eat anything even close to that hot. Dave's is about the upper limit of what a person with iron lining in the stomach and a high pain threshold can tolerate. Once you get beyond 100,000 Scoville units or so the sauces are not for seasoning portions of food, but huge batches of food. Stuff hotter than that is used to flavor chili where only a drop or two is used per gallon. Anyone that actually tried to eat the 1 million plus Scoville extracts undiluted would probably wind up in the hospital or dead.

Wow, Dave's sauce is on the lower end of that list. If Dave's sauce is hot, I can't imagine what the Blair 6 A.M. sauce must be like.

Is the Scoville Rating linear? If Dave's Ultimate Insanity Sauce has a SR of 90,000 and Tabasco has a SR of 2,500.....

90,000 / 2,500 = 36

Surely that doesn't mean that Dave's sauce is 36 times hotter than Tabasco, does it?
yes it does.

The rating goes back to the 1930's i believe.

Any hoo: Dave's is water compared to Possible Side Effects.

And that's water compared to a whole bunch of other sauces.

yes, scoville is linear.. something like the number of parts of sugar water to sauce that you can still taste the heat or somethign :p

Applauds Jzero. That's what I've always thought. I love a tasty, spicy sauce that you can enjoy not one that is simply hot for the sake of being hot and makes you not want to eat the food.
Actually, it's very tasty. You just have to make sure not to use too much of it. I use it all the time, just sparingly. ;)

have learned, through experience, that Hotsauce in = Hotsauce out. So if it hurts while eating it, but you carry on anyway, well, it's gonna hurt again later too.

Come on, ice cream...

Insanity Sauce can't be that hot, I use Blair's Mega Death Sauce on everything I make.

I can handle a few drops on my tongue...

I like Dave's Insanity Sauce. Just a drop or two can heat up a whole bowl of Chili! Endorphin Rush isn't half bad, either. Anything hotter than that is stupid, though. Those 1,000,000+ Scoville unit "sauces" are like spraying pepper spray onto your food :)

Cmon guys, let's hear some other *specific* product recommendations. So far only Blair's and Dave's. What else do you guys like?

Also, how are the Scoville units measured? Is there a machine?

I saw a thing on it on discovery maybe 2 weeks back. The sauce is not actually made from peppers straight - dave uses a mix of peppers for taste and adds the chilli extract to make it inflammable.

It's nowhere close to the hottest
