"HE WORKS FOR 3DFX. WE ARE TALKING ABOUT 3DFX! Need I make any connections?"

YOU sir ought to rethink THAT comment.

that is the sort of thing that starts these flame wars in the first place.

just to be sure, I'd LOVE it if you made the connections for me. I'd like to know how your Opinion of 3dfx reflects on your final judgement of Dave.

if it at all means what I think it means.. well, that is a PERFECT example of going too far. sure it may be your opinion, but theres a difference between saying that you agree or disagree, and simply attacking something (3dfx), or someone (Dave).

Employer/employee agreements, and company policy is not what we're talking about here. You've said that since Dave is a 3dfx employee, he shouldn't voice his opinions here.

"if you work for any company you should stay out of discussions regarding that company and it's competitors"
"regardless of whether or not DaveB3D is responsible for 3dfx's products, he still shouldn't post here"

Look, I'm just saying that it's silly to say that one shouldn't post opinions on products that his employer makes. Or even the employer's competition. I've posted plenty of opinions on cars in other threads. Not a big deal.

Should people who work for AnandTech not discuss the site, or other sites? How about people who work for ISP's... should they not post regarding different broadband connections?

I'm probably just "splitting hairs" by now. So, I'll stop. 😉

The fact that he does work for 3dfx makes him at least as welcome here as anyone else, if not more so.

<< regardless of whether or not DaveB3D is responsible for 3dfx's products, he still shouldn't post here >>

I don't see your logic at all. You are attacking Dave the person, not Dave the 3dfx employee. A weak argument has been made that he should not post here because he works for the company, but you're saying he would not be welcome even if he didn't?

As an owner of a V5 5500 I look for all of DaveB3D posts. I am looking at if this card is worth keeping over my V3 30000. It seems with every post he makes I find a way to make the card faster and it makes my choice harder🙂

<< regardless of whether or not DaveB3D is responsible for 3dfx's products, he still shouldn't post here >>

pm (an elite member) works for Intel....should he be banned as well for making posts about CPUs?

If Dave doesn't reperesent 3dfx, then why do we know he works for them? This is a mssg. board about technology, not what we do at work. There is no reason for us all to know his position at 3dfx unless he represents them here. If it's for credentials, let his statements support him. I see a lot of this type of post; "I agree with him most of the time". Charlatons are right most of the time, so this just shows him to be potentially more destructive to truth. As for retaliation to flames; I've pointed out before that it only fans the fire, and now I will add that it adds to the garbage I have to skim through, so in the end he is no better than they are.
