Dating Protocol

When you're dating and out for dinner at a nice restaurant (well just a regular family restaurant actually) is it customary to sit opposite or on the same side as your partner?

Across from each other. Then after a few drinks when you both are playful and tippsy you can move next to each other and be touchy or make out or whatever. It's to awkward if you do it before you are both all giddy and playful.

Typically new couples sit across, established ones sit side-by-side. Your giving them more 'personal space' as appropriate when you start dating, when its natual for you to sit side to side you'll know.

I'm just talking from experience. Usually it's the girl that asks me to come sit next to her. Or she comes to my side. Obviously you'd want to feel out the situation and use discernment. But there is no rule. If a girl wants that then go with it!

(thats usually on the first or second date too)

Exactly. She will ask. And hey, you're all ready off to a good start if she asks.

Are we talking in a booth or a square table? I'll always sit "next" to my date at a square table (ie 12 o'clock & 3 o'clock positions), but never on the same side of the booth - just seems awkward to have to turn my head to look over.

You're all wrong.

Get her to sit on your lap.

The correct way of eating in this situation is for her to takes a byte, and then feed you a byte. That way both of your hands a free to experience, how should I say, better things. You also save money by only having to order one super sized meal.

Good luck
