Depends - how's her sense of smell? If it's good, she'll be able to tell. Would it bother her if she had to smell it?

you saying could smell before any "activities" happen or during?
 
If it smells now, spray a bunch of stuff around, have some candles going, and do it after. If it doesn't smell, do it after.
 
Definately clean the pipes before the date. The snake is a bit drastic. You might just want to go with the fist and some spit.

Both. Maybe even durring. Perhaps you should clean them on the way there, or at work before hand, or when picking up the dry cleaning, or when at the market looking for a fine pork roast, or when irrigating your lawn, or when writing a thank-you note to granny or....
