I just got a job with a consulting company. Paperwork will be done on the weekend making it the 12th.

I was wondering if companies usually start people at random times during a month or usually at the beginning of a month. Im not talking about somewhere in need of a person asap

Stupid question, but I just didn't know

I think they usually start people on a certain day of the week, but not of the month.

If you accept it doesn't matter what date. It's ASAP, but two weeks from acceptance or the monday before/after two weeks is acceptible.

In other words, you are already bought and paid for. You start ASAP, given two weeks.

We start people on Mondays. Could be anytime during the month, except from the first week of December through the end of the year. No one starts then.

Also, since everything is not in writing yet and they are putting together the offer package. How long do I have to review it?

You can review it for the rest of your life I suppose but considering it sounds like you've already accepted I doubt that will do much good.

All of this should have gone through verbal negotiations. The written offer just finalizes it.

You have very little time to review a written offer. A few days MAX.

Well I kind of did and told the fellow that I look foward to working there but want things in writing first before moving foward.

I am a recent grad from college so I know negotiations are little to none

I was just giving you a hard time since you said "I just got a job with a consulting company.". But Normally people will expect an answer within 48 hours after they send you an offer letter (or at least expect some sort of communication, like you need another day or something to review it).

I don't have a ton of experience with getting written offers, but the one I recently got gave me 10 business days to review it, and I called and requested an extension for another 2 weeks without a problem.

Before I get argued with....

1) It takes a decent amount of time and money to find a good fit
2) It takes a TREMENDOUS amout of time and money to bring somebody onboard
3) A written offer via priority USPS delivery is an official offer of employment to accept the position. Once it gets to this stage there is little to no negotiation. You want it? Simply accept. If you flinch as a recent grad then keep hunting, plenty of grads out there.
4) You move and you move quick. Less than 24 hours quick.

Actually, companies will prefer having you start at the beginning of the month (after the 1st) because they don't have to pay health insurance for you for that month.
