database management

to start off... the company that i work for is looking to ditch thier order tracking system, it was programmed by a company. is there a way to tell what kind of database the program used?

also, what tools can be used to make a good new database, like SQL, PHP, etc. We need something that is user-friendly and has a GUI.

also, we need to figure out a way too get all of the old information out of the old database, and put it into a new one.

any help is appreciated, and i can type more about his, cos this is pretty vague.

How many people will be using the database? Do you need it to be real secure? Replication? Does it need to be web based? Client/Server Based? etc.

Look where the program is storing the db and tell us what the file extension is. I work with some of the best DB guys in the business. Let me know if I can help via PM

around 50-100 people using database. it needs to be somewhat secure, but can be secured on a server, and it's client/server based, but we would like to have it web based in the sense that our vendors can send us their work threw the internet and can be downloaded onto the database.

the file extensions are .dbf
