I went over my allotted data plan on ringplus and it cost me. Data usage showed android os used over a gig in less than a month. Last sunday, I supposedly used 600meg of data. Is there any way to drill down and see wth happened?

Pull down the quick toggles, tap your signal strength, more settings. It details data usage by app.

My guess is going to be something like Snapchat getting out of control (again), or a free app going bonkers with ads/data mining. IF you pirate apps, those things are usually straight-up malware.

Probably a good idea to set data warnings and a cut off if you're on a limited plan. That way it can't go over unless you acknowledge it. That's what I did with my wife's phone.

There's also a restrict background data on mobile option per app I believe.

And get Adaway if you haven't.

under the data usage info, the hog is 'android os', no other apps come close to use. i was hoping some way to break that down further. From some of my reading,it doesn't look possible, unless I'm missing something.

I would try getting up to date and monitoring data.

It's possible the download keeps trying and progressing and failing because you're rooted. But that's just a guess. Android may be bad at telling you where your battery life is going, but I find it to be much better at telling you where your data is going.

Also, do you pirate apps?

no pirating. I'm switching back to fi, so I'll be wiping and starting from scratch.
