data transfer

I just upgraded my computer. I have a new 500gb sata hd and I installed a fresh copy of Vista on it. My old IDE hd has a lot of stuff on it I would like to keep. Can I transfer my old data to my new hd or is that data pretty much not accessable now. I know I can reconnect it to my IDE port on my new mobo. My old drive also has Vista on it. Any thoughts as to how I might be able to move some of this data?

plug both drives into the same computer. make SURE the old drive is sitting in a proper cage, and not just on the side of your opened computer, or it might short with the case.
Set bios to boot from new drive. windows will detect the old drive and it will show up as well, just copy paste from one drive to another.

Thanks all, I will give it a try. When you say boot from new drive, I'm assuming you mean the new SATA drive. I already have that drive installed and running as "C" drive w/Vista on it. I'm guessing the old IDE drive will become "D" or something of that designation.

sata first priority ide second.

isn't there a mirrior program where you can do all that. i'd hate to see this guy sitting for hours trying to move folders and folders into his new hdd

yes, but the bios of the motherboard is capable of booting from the old drive, when it does that the old drive will show as C and new one as D.
You can go back and forth between them freely actually.
