Data Transfer over 10/100 -- Cannot create long file name, cannot create file system...___WHY??!

Hello everyone,

I am trying to transfer files between systems over 10/100 linksys networking switch. (I also tried a crossover cable)

It is a large amount of data -- 1GB and in total about 5GB.

I keep getting the errors

Cannot create long file name,
cannot create file system

When I transfer individual directories it works okay, but there are so many that it would take forever.

Why is it doing this? What is the best way to transfer huge amounts of data while maintaining the original file names and structure? Are there any special programs? I am just using Network Neighborhood. One system has Windows ME and the other has 98 second edition, but the same problem ocurrs with both Win ME systems.

It seems that it just should work -- after all, how else would you transfer data?

Thanks very much for your help.
