Data transfer differences between domain and local

Here's the machine information:
NT 4.0 SP6a
XP SP2

Both are on a local switch, both are a member of the same domain. When I'm logged onto both machines (same domain user account) I try to pull a file from the NT machine to the XP machine while on the XP machine and the file takes ~20 minutes (~3GB file).

Now if I log onto the machines locally, same local account, and try to do the same thing, it takes ~5 minutes, same file.

Any ideas?

How can the local account be the same as the domain account? Not possible. More explanation?

What I meant was that I have created a local account as the same name as the account on the domain.

If you do a "net use * \\ntmachine" -- how fast is it to merely connect?

Are you running AV software? (I've seen AV software screw up in network situations in the past...)

Make sure your machine point to your server as their DNS server. (Check event viewer...)
