Data Recovery

Anyone know of any good data recovery services? HD died, motor just whirs away so it will most likely require physical fixing. Pricing would also be nice to know as well. Thanks!

Forgot to mention that it's an old 120GB Maxtor IDE (ATA/133) drive.

My HardDrive Died.com

"We charge an evaluation fee of $50 payable by check, Visa or American Express.

If we are able to do the recovery then we charge an additional $750 for a standard IDE Desktop hard drive 400 gig or smaller.

The evaluation will take 7 business days for testing and results where we do a six pass inspection on the drive to determine the problem and possible solution

They have their own clean room and stuff? Personal experience with using them?

Sorry for so many questions, the data is really important want to make sure I get the best chance possible of recovering it.

Yes, they have clean rooms.
I haven't personally used them, but many have.
They are quite a bit cheaper for data recovery than the competition.

Scott Moulson http://www.myharddrivedied.com certainly appears to know what he is doing. He does lectures on drive recovery and foresics and posts drive repair videos on YouTube.

There are a couple other well-known data recovery outfits. Ontrack has been around for decades. DtiData makes some decent drive recovery software and performs recoveries. DriveSavers has a good reputation, too.

I haven't personally used any of these, although I've talked to OnTrack and DtiData about drives.
