Hello everyone.
Somehow, the operating files for my "WD My Book Pro Edition (250gb)" external, desktop hard drive became corrupted. WD support found the problem and said they will reformat the drive or replace it altogether, if I wish. However, I have hundreds of photos on this backup drive, including digital pics of the 50th wedding anniversary of my parents.
WD tech support said that in regard to the data on the drive, if I want to retrieve it, they will charge me. Just how much they will charge, they didn't say.
I'm writing now to ask if there are any effective freeware data recovery programs on the net, that anyone would recommend?
I heard that Easy Recovery Pro is very good, but the license is something like $600. The manufacturer of this software provides a trial version, but I don't know what that means. One outfit allows you to use the software to find the data, but charges to retrieve it.
I'm a bit stuck and would welcome any and all helpful information!
Thanks in advance,
John
