My hard drive is nearly dead, the boot volume is unmountable and there is massive data corruption. I have had some success with GetDataBack for NTFS, does anyone have any other utils they could suggest?
 
Is it a slave or master drive? Regardless, you should stop using that drive asap and slave it in to another PC and use EasyRecovery Professional. I find it to be the best recovery app by far. PM me if you need any help with it... I do it all the time (www.dwfitt.com)
 
Just tried that software; ended up with the same basic problem: the comp freezes during the scan if I try to do the whole hard drive. All i can do is try to scan pieces of it.
