data recovery software?

i accidently deleted a folder with a powerpoint presentation and some mp3's in it that i need. is there a way free, simple way to recover it? i shift+deleted the folder bypassing the recycle bin. stupid me thanks

Norton systemworks has a program that allows you to restore deleted files but im not sure that it will recover files that were deleted before you install systemworks but you can try. Scott mueller has a good article on recovering data just as in your case Recovery article

Remember, anything you install might overwrite the data.

When you delete something, the data is still there, but the FAT (or equiviallent) is marked empty.
