Data recovery question

Is there a way to recover data from a Hard Drive that has been reformatted? I had 98SE installed and wanted to upgrade to XP and I just reformatted the 20Gb HD making a backup of all files on CDs except a 700Mb folder containing pics of my whole life and my family which I have no other copy of.

Is there a way or am I basically screwed???

Google for 'getdataback' or visit download.com. Its a simple to use program. If all you did was format the drive, its very likely that the info is still there. I believe they offer a freeware version of the program that at least lets you view any raw data on the drive.

Now I just need to find a program that will let me recover a single 4MB file for free 😛

BinaryBiz's VirtualLab is pretty good at FINDING the data, but it expensive to actually KEEP the data. :/

well, I actually installed XP and a few other programs on the formatted HD. I'll try some of those programs.

I got "getdataback" and was only able to recover about 1/3 of the pics. I assume the rest have been written over with Win XP and my programs etc .
