Data recovery for dummies

Does anyone know of any good resource(s) where I can learn how to recover data from corrupted hard drives?

I know the "theory" behind recovering deleted data and data from drives with bad "FAT"s but I have no idea what kind of hardware/software I would need, let alone how to actually do the proccess.

Any useful info would be very helpful, thanks.

I have heard about freezing. I have never actually tried it but have seen people swear by it. Just be sure to put the HD in a plastic bag you can seal so that no moisture gets in. The solution to this problem is to backup your data.
I make schedule backups, so if smth happens with my hd I won't lost my data. For this purpose I use True Image.

If that doesn't help, look for a local recovery agency.
