Ok fellas i need some help.
i have a grip of mp3's on a drive and i am starting to worry that if my drive was to crap out, i'd be out of luck and all my music would be gone. My question is, if i want to move into raid 1 (i think, the one that mirrors drives) on my abit k7t raid, would i be able to just plop another identical drive into raid and not have to do any reformatting?
an alternative i was also thinking, is how well do hard drives keep? I am thinking about maybe copying everything onto a drive and just putting it back in its box and keep it in my closet or something. And so if my drive was to ever bust, the spare is there with my music on it. Would the drive deteriorate as well? I realize that there are issues of just having a lemon or something, but i am thinking that if it is not being used, it will not crap out.
Which would be better?
thanks ahead of time
