to be frank, it's a piece of sh|t job. you may wonder why i'm saying this. it's because you won't really learn anything useful. you probably got the job because you have more knowledge about a computer than a monkey which is what's required for something like this.

sitting on a computer staring at a monitor for 8 hours every day for two months is also not good for your back, posture and eyesight.

you'd be much better off doing something where you'll learn something. even sales is better imo because you develop people skills: the ability to interact with people, sell a product, deal with people in general. these skills are highly valued by employers.

as someone mentioned, data entry is no better than factory work because it's the same repetitive bs, the difference being you are not sweating and hauling heavy boxes but are sitting in an air-conditioned office.

He's in high school. Working 2 days a week entering data for probably a lot more than minimum wage is a good job.

yup....so i might just do something for weekdays as well i guess..i dont know till summer comes around
Apply now, don't sit around waiting - once summer starts, it'll take a while to fill out applications, get interviews, etc. and then before you know it, your summer will be over. Don't wait - apply now, and to as many places are possible. Line things up asap and in advance so that when the time comes, you have offers ready for you.

The best way to get through data entry is through music or, even better, books on tape. Problem is, audio books are expensive... buy an iPod and download books on mp3 from the P2P network of your choice.

Speaking of audio books, a published sci-fi author freely distributes his books via audio.

yeah already applied for circuit city, they are hiring so i got something with them as well too.

i hope this will be a good job, and as people stated its a boring one...anyone have personal experience at wachovia ?? like how they treat their employees etc

It'll get your foot in the door if you decide to go to school and get a degree in something computer/business related. You can throw that on your resume and apply in another bank or Wachovia later... It may open a door later on.

yeah hopefully, i want this to be a real big oppurtunity, i have all my HS friends working at burger king or somewhere while i can be working for a big professional corporation. I just hope i get it lol...thats all

The trick is to write a program to do the data entry for you and just pretend your working all day.

You would think an employer such as Wachovia would have a programmer whip that up for them instead of wasting it on manpower. Maybe there's something I'm missing, potential for continuous errors, etc.

You would be surprised what an employer would overlook if they are ignorant on what can be done by a computer. Such that you have program A that produces a print out and program B needs that data. You could just store the data from program A into a database and then let program B use it.

man im scared...tomorrow i got my interview !

No need to be worried. Just be yourself and don't try to over impress. I don't think there'd be any kind of technical questions they would ask you...but if they do and you don't know it. Just tell them you don't know but feel more than capable of picking it up quickly. That's the biggest thing, don't BS. Good luck to you today.
