data downloaded while surfing

how to find out how much data i've downloaded from the internet while surfing or while downloading files. is there a software which can tell me that? pls help.

This might work, right click on "My Network Places" (for WinXP), select properties, when the new window opens up, double click on the "Local Area Connection" a new window will pop up and show packets sent/recieved, not sure if that is something you are looking for.
