it's like fame where the asian guy harlem won, he was a 5ft bald asian guy who sang like a black girl...i just think its interesting how all my asian friends were rooting for him to win...and i was like so you would have voted for him if he was a 5ft black or white guy? and they didn't really have an answer to that...haha just funny to call them out on their biases.

i never watched any of the Last Comic Standing episodes, but i did hear his jokes on a cd before he went on nbc.
i'm not sure if he told the same jokes on Last Comic Standing, but when i saw him on Jay Leno, every single damn joke he said on stage was
from the CD. from the pretending fobby accent to the end...all the lines were the same.
he needs to make up some new ones.

yeah.....

I actually saw the reruns on saturday so this time I AM NOT TALKING OUT OF MY ASS...

Dat was actually ok during his last set.....the reason I don't find him to be a very good comic is that he is not, in person, very funny.

To me , comedy has its greatest effect in improvisation..be it something someone says in class that makes everyone laugh, or someone in a group of friends that makes the other spit up their drink.

I think he was funny, but apparently the crowds and the nationwide audience thought he was the funniest...ah well. As for Harlemm Lee from Fame (he graduated from my high school...so weird)...I don't know about him. I don't think he was great, but compared to the rest of the Fame contenders, he probably should've won...and yeah, he has a very high voice.

Between Dat Phan and Harlemm Lee, I don't know if this is all good for the asian male stereotype or not. :) ;) (nah, getting some faces into the media's always good)

Same formula... all over again.

Dat Phan: mostly Asian jokes
[any black comic]: mostly African-American jokes
[any fat comic]: mostly fat jokes

Margaret Cho, Ernie G, Chris Rock, Jeff Foxworth, Martin Lawrence, Rudy Moreno..... Same formula. Make fun of your own stereotype.

Now when you look at the like of George Carlin, Jerry Seinfeld, or Bill Cosby, then you're talking genius.

if dat phan wasn't funny, none were. they were all about the same:p

and when that fat dude started ranting about skinny people.. he just lost me. its one thing for a slightly chubby person to proclaim fat power, love your fat etc, fat awareness pc bullsh*t, but morbidly obese? it just starts to look sad at that point. someone needs to help him pay for stomach stapling before he dies.

This is exactly why I didnt' want him to win. Ralphie was by far the better/funnier comic. I don't remember Ralphie telling the same joke once. Same subject matter maybe but it was always different and always funny. He didn't always joke about being fat either. I couldn't stand Rich. I wish it would have come down to Dave and Ralphie.

Harlemm has more talent in his right pinkie toe than you will ever hope to have. His winning had nothing to do with the fact that he was a short asian dude. Did you even watch the show?

Dave should have won it, he was the funny. Once he got booted i started rooting for Dat, just because everyone else was a moron. I have to admit though, when dat beat dave and everyone else was saying "well dat did his dog and pony show and they lapped it up" and crap like that thats when i started rooting for him.

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Tess was a loser, she walked around talking like she already won the contest and then at the very end started saying crap like "we're all winners"

The funniest thing i remember about the show was Daves joke about his car going slower when he turned the radio up.

"That doesn't even make sense!" -dave.

All of the Highlights he did and even on the TOnight Show. I don't think I ever laughed once.

How hard is to talk with a bad accent and talk really fast so no one can understand you? Totally not funny. Something was wrong with the voting. I almost fell over when it was just the two left and he won. Totally blew my mind.

Lets put it this way. He was the most deserving person to win that show.
He beat 3 people in a one on one match.
And then he won out in the last group of five.
No one else went through that much to get to the final five.

He wasn't the funniest but he was funny enough.
The people that voted obviouslt thought he was funny enough.

About that Harlem Lee, forget about him being short, bald and Asian.
That guy is tremendously talented. If you watch him sings, he makes every song his own and made it special.

He didn't have to. "Light 'em up" totally turned me off; it wasn't as much of a joke at that point as it was a political statement, especially with the constant repeats.

I didn't think dat phan was very funny...ridiculing family/nationality gets old quick...very disappointing too that after the millions of viewers they had, he used the same jokes the next day on leno. thats just hopeless, hire some writers beforehand for some new jokes or whatever, but DONT repeat the same jokes to two national audiences 2 days in a row!

I was at the taping of one of the shows at Caroline's comedy club in NYC. There were far more better comedians there then Dat Phan, not to mention all the other people.
