Just blowing of steam, bought a used Adaptech 1394 firewire card from some company on e-bay. got the thing this afternoon, it's a TI firewire card, which probobly wouldn't work w/my canopus box as it has a little warning about not working with many ti fireware cards. so I figured I'd try it anyway, plugged it in, XP wouldn't detect it....so I searched the web for drivers, got about 5 min. into searching and the dasm thing fried my 400W power supply (even released the majik smoke). enough ranting, I feel a little better, hope those b@st@rds at least refund me my money + return shipping (if they want it back even though it doesn't work) what are the odds?

edit: and I had to scavange my 300W power supply from one of my seti crunchers to get my main rig going again, so there goes 8WU/per day til I can replace my power supply for my main rig.

Did they forget to mention in the description the compatibility of that firewire card? If they didn't, then why would/should they refund you your money?

I wouldn't blame eGay because you bought the wrong thing.

We can all protest it but we all know we'll be back sooner or later.

You KNEW that card probably won't work yet you went for it anyway. How's that seller's fault?

Your problems have nothing to do with eBay.

Wow - a tough crowd here. Sorry to hear about you losing one of your rigs for a while. All I can say is just be happy that's the only thing that got fried. On the positive side, at least power supplies aren't too expensive. Could've been a lot worse.

duh, it's not e-bay's fault, it's the occasional idiots on e-bay, and yes I did research, adaptec doesn't make any firewire cards that use ti chipsets. (the main reason I wanted an adpatec card in the first place) and everyone of adaptec's firewire cards have their drivers embedded in the windows xp kernel. the auction said it was specifically an adaptec firewire card so that's what I expect to recieve. would anyone want me to sell them battlefield 1942 and then I send you a scratched up age of wonders cd that doesn't work?

I normally get this type of stuff here in the f/s forums, but everything available here was ti chipset based.

the power supply was my fault. and I never mentioned I wanted them to replace that, just the ti firewire card with either a full refund for not sending me what I payed for or send the right card and pay for return shipping for the ti card. If I was the seller I'd make good on sh!t like that if for whatever odd reason I screwed up on the description and didn't have what I was advertising.

Re your card ,I think your 1st post was a little unclear ,I didn't realise you'd asked for 1 card & got a different one,that sucks!:disgust:

I haven't traded via that company for 2 years now. I think somewhere in the site is a disclaimer that states their not responsible for any trader intentionally advertise a false product. All you can do is file a complaint against the trader/seller. If this is the only deal the trader did with that company then nothing will ever become of the complaint.

Try to see if the trader can be contacted directly to ask for a refund/return. Goodluck.

Damn, seems we have a bunch of freaking jerks on ATOT who can't read the fvcking post before they spout off with useless insults or "advice," huh? Now I remember why I rarely step into this forum.

I've never done any transactions on ebay, and it's stuff like this that keeps me from wanting to purchase anything listed there too badly. The only online place that's gotten orders from me is Newegg (I've been satisfied all times), though I might get something listed on AT FS/FT someday if it's from someone who I am familiar with.

Sorry to hear about your experience, Lobadobadingdong. Good luck getting it resolved, somehow. :(
