Dash Cam saves another person, but not the way you may think.

Man gets traffic ticket for running stop sign when video shows he clearly stopped
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/oddnews...video-shows-he-clearly-stopped-203436653.html

But but... the police chief says after viewing the video...

Chief Roach did defend his officers. “He defends his officers, saying technically…the law says you stop at the stop sign, you move forward, stop again, until you can see that the intersection is clear and then you go.”

Whats that, you only stopped once at that stop sign, here's your ticket.

but:

When the station brought the video to Jefferson Hills Police Chief Gene Roach, he viewed it and decided to ask the police officer responsible for writing the ticket to withdraw it.

So at least the Chief didn't go full retard.

I've really been thinking about getting a dash cam. I just wish car companies would tailor their car to support them a bit better.

Yes although I can't help but think 'this time'

I agree. The police know not everyone has a dash cam, so they will get paid 98% of the time. They have to make up budget shortfalls somehow.

I actually remember being taught this stopping at the stop sign thing even if it was located in a spot that didn't give a clear view of the intersection back in drivers ed when I took it in high school. For some reason the cop just wanted to be a dick it seems.

I didn't care for his. It blocked his forward vision. They should have given him a ticket for that.

The stop sign laws should be revised. Like a poster above said, you are supposed to stop at the sign, even if it's 15 feet back from the intersection and bushes are blocking your view of the road at that point.

I got points deducted during my driving test for rolling past one, because I couldn't see the road clearly to the sides. I've never heard you should stop twice (which sounds like BS); how about moving the stop signs to where it will be useful to the driver to stop, or get over this 'have to stop exactly where the sign is' stupidity.

i m surprised cars dont have dash cam as standard by now! at least to record the front, i would be worried if it records the back too.

I have a hard time getting too upset when I hear about cops getting killed in the line of duty. Bunch of scumbags with free reign to shit on people with no repercussions.

Right, because every stop sign needs to be set up to be sure that the view is 100% clear no matter how trees grow or where/how people might park in the area. That's way better than expecting drivers to just exercise a little common sense, stop, and then proceed when they can verify that it's safe to proceed.

What do you mean? I have one in my truck. Mounts to the windshield, is hidden behind the rear view mirror from my sight more or less, the cable is routed under the headliner, down the A pillar, under the dash, and it comes out by the cigarette lighter. Took all of 10 minutes to route the cable and you don't notice the cam at all except on vehicle startup.

Major pet peeve of mine when I stop at the stop sign and someone else is ahead of me who pulled through the stop sign and stopped in the intersection instead of at the sign.

I pull up behind them, at the correct stopping point, stop, and then go. I'm not doing anything wrong. The person ahead of me has not stopped at the stop sign, and where I've stopped at the correct spot. It confuses the other drivers in the intersection because some asshat couldn't bother to stop in the correct spot. There are no bushes or limbs or anything blocking view either.
