Reverse the party in power and back up one president and you've got Newt Gingrich.
I disagree. I'm not a fan of Gingrich but he's a person of substance and he's intelligent. Many of the things he said actually made sense.

Part of the opposition party leader's job is critiquing the party in power. But that's all Daschle ever does. He never/rarely talks about the things done by his party. He only rants about how the Rs are doing a poor job but doesn't really explain why. That's weak and I feel the Ds could do much better.

If combat means living in a ditch, females have biological problems staying in a ditch for 30 days because they get infections --Newt Gingrich

Remember that? lol. Some women got upset with that one.

1st thing- I'm perfectly aware of the various meanings of "intercourse"- I do find it amusing that 3 years ago they didn't know what the meaning of IS is, now they want to claim that the less common and unusual usage of a word is what he meant! BTW, from what I understand, the prepared text said discourse- which means it was a pure and simple slip of the tongue, with results that can be misinterpeted by over 90% of the population. IMO, a politician (at Daschles level) will not make a statement that easy to be miscontrued by that large of a segment of the population.
2nd, I'm not bashing Daschle here. While I have some disagreements with him politcally, I'm not knocking him or his intelligiance.
3rd , I'm not claiming Bush is a rocket scientist either. I personally suspect he has a form of Dyslexia. If so, the mocking of him (and his statements) is particularly juvenile- rather akin to making fun of FDR being in a wheelchair.

This is a completely disingenuous defense of your original post, which was obviously made in error. First of all, I can't see that Daschle = Clinton, or how President Clinton's quibbling over the meaning of the word "is" has any relevance here. The use of "intercourse" here was not a "less common and unusual usage," and it seems obvious that he meant exactly what he said - you are the one who is trying to contort his perfectly clear statement into an error to defend your own ignorance.

If you are "not knocking him or his intelligiance" (spelling, anyone?), why does your thread title imply he is "stupid" or "tired"? How do you know what his prepared text said, and why shouldn't he deviate from it, as long as his deviation is correct and clear (as it was)? I don't believe for a moment that you knew the definition of "intercourse" when you created this thread, and now you are firmly in backpedaling mode.

I think your right about the Dyslexia thing, I had it pretty bad when I was young, I was put into a special class with other kids for about three years. Even today I still feel the effects, I say things in conversation that don't make sense and I have a hard time pronouncing words that are not that tuff. Actually it's become a joke between my wife and I. Usually when I'm stressed or nervous it gets worse. I am not dumb and GWB is not dumb I just think he sometimes has a hard time putting into words what he is thinking.

I don't know what you guys are all bitching and whining about... the lines in the original post are hillarious. I too believe this country needs more international intercourse to help build relationships. After all, there isn't a better foundation for a relationship than intercourse.

Daschle is an ignorant twat and I wish SD would pull it's collective head out of it's arse and finally vote him out of office.

I've tried to do my part. (One vote in South Dakota is a lot but still not enough to topple the other 10,000 vote margin he gets every damn election!)

Tom "Puff" Daschle, the unelected leader of the senate is the worst politician of the last 5000 years. Hes bad for America and stands squarely in the way of our beloved leader the honorable President George Bush; and therefore needs to be impeached immediatley.

'I have been one who always believed that global markets and international intercourse is something very, very important to our country...

If you find this comment either funny or stupid you reveal far more about your maturity level and/or grasp of the english language, than the statement does about Dashcle's intelligence.

Well, if you wanna nitpick like the media does with Bush all the time, you could note that Daschle uses incorrect grammar by using a singular verb with multiple subjects and that the sentence should read "global markets and international intercourse are very, very important..."

What's wrong with what he said? It is a perfectly legitimate definition of the use of the word. Sure there's a different context of the word, but it still means the same thing. Talk to a politician and you get screwed.

All this time, I thought my wife and I were having sex. You mean we were just talking? :Q

And my wife having sex with her friends and co-workers? :|

All things equal, I've never heard Daschle say anything positive. Daschle excels at criticizing what he doesn't like, whining about the Ds not being in control and in power and putting fear into the populace. I honestly don't believe I've ever heard him come up with original content.

The Democrats are negative towards the Republicans and the Republicans are negative towards the Democrats. Its nothing new. Its called politics.

'I have been one who always believed that global markets and international intercourse is something very, very important to our country,' he said.

OK. lets analyze his answer. What is the stupid thing about this? The word 'intercourse'? If you remove your mind off the gutter, intercourse means "connection of dealings between persons or groups; exchange of thoughts and feelings" (Websters).
