Fantastic film. If you ever have 5 hours to kill go rent the director's cut. German film, about a U-boat.
Its quite a ride, I highly recommend it.

In the original - you never saw the outside of the boat, which added a HUGE amount of suspense.
From what I've heard, in the director's cut they added a cheap sub-in-a-pool effects to it, which severly changes the mood of the movie.

Even the ending? Because that takes place outside the sub and I doubt they could have added that afterwards.

the ending was a bit of a bummer eh? "good job guys, you survived!!! OH SH1T, INCOMING!!!"
the best part of the director's cut is the remastered surround sound. It really adds to the experience!Originally posted by: Thump553
Das Boot (the original, at least) is one of the best war movies ever made ever, in my opinion. I've been on US subs of that era, and man are they tiny. The movie conveys this clastrophobia very well.

I wouldn't. U571 is a horrible pile of crap compared to Das Boot. I can barely bring myself to mention the two movies in the same post.
