While I understand and respect what you posted, parents have reached a point where they are afraid to touch their children.

Mother grabs child, bystander calls police, mother is arrested for assault. But hey, at least the child would be alive.

Then again, how many children die from drugs and other bad behavior because the parents did not discipline the child? I wonder if the child that was killed ever had her ass tore up with a leather belt?

I feel the parents are not to blame but rather a political correct society that demonizes discipline.

Because nothing says I love you more than a good beating.

Unless it's allowing a child to reach thirteen years old so fucking stupid, entitled and undisciplined that she'll sit down in a road to throw a tantrum to get her way.

Enlightened parents know that love means letting your children play in traffic when they want. 'Causing hitting is bad - unless it's with cars, apparently.

Hey, there some idiot on NPR with a PHD today saying there is never a reason to touch a child, go figure.

He sounded really really old and clueless and Scandnivian I believe.

Child Protective Services have went right out the wall for a long time in this country, I can even recall one time around 1985 one of the most responsible women I ever knew (one of my former mother-in-laws) who was the Head Nurse in the OR/ER at North Shore had some bogus crap pulled on her and was watched like a hawk by Government BS.

It was all crap, but once they start a case, it a job for some government idiots to live for everyday.

Things like that have progressively made people nervous about even doing the right thing with their children over time.

Society demonizes discipline that is too harsh, it does not demonize all discipline. ...

What you deem to be ok, I may deem to be too harsh, or vice versa. From there everything goes down hill.

Here you go :

Parents let their 10 and 6 yr olds walk 1 mile home alone - CPS goes after them :

http://www.washingtonpost.com/local...06c0be-9c0f-11e4-bcfb-059ec7a93ddc_story.html

"CPS Accuses Mother Of Child Endangerment For Letting Her Son Play Alone Outside"

http://houston.cbslocal.com/2014/09...rment-for-letting-her-son-play-alone-outside/

"A Sacramento couple recently had their baby ripped from their arms at their home by Sacramento Child Protective Services workers, with the help of local police, after telling a Sacramento hospital they wanted a second opinion on treatment for their baby."

http://calwatchdog.com/2013/05/24/sacramento-family-fights-seizure-of-child-by-cps/

This from the last article pretty much sums up the CPS :

"Assemblyman Donnelly is now demanding an audit of Child Protective Services."

"Donnelly first contacted a Deputy Director at CPS. “The first question I asked them is, ‘Are these parents abusive? Do you suspect that they are guilty of neglect or something along those lines.’ And they said, ‘Absolutely not; 99.9 percent these are just normal parents.’ And I said then, ‘What the Hell are you doing?'”"

Note: I don't have kids so I have no horse in this race, just see it as another example of excesses of the police state / loss of freedom.

She is 13 years old man. They do not think like adults.

are you kidding? if not then that is the dumbest fucking thing i have seen in a while. The only excuse the 13 would have is IF she was mentally ill.

at 13 they know playing in traffic IS FUCKING STUPID and a good way to die. FUCK my 8 yr old knows this.

People need to stop making excuses for kids who are older then 5.

Im just bitter and nobody knows why.

I bet it's because you have a small dick.

Could have happened to anyone, really. If the kid is that much of a brat, the mother might have been fatigued from dealing with her and slow to react as a result. Or who knows, I duno. It sucks.

to be honest that's a cop out too.

there are times and places where you just can't. When a childs life is on the line you don't stop.

now i can see giving in at the store, giving in and letting them eat treats, or letting them watch tv.

sitting in the road?

Hey, there some idiot on NPR with a PHD today saying there is never a reason to touch a child, go figure.
They need to talk in black and white terms to prevent assholes from rationalizing abuse. "Well, the expert did say it was acceptable to touch a child under certain conditions. I'm very certain whipping my daughter because she kissed a boy is one of those conditions." If the expert says there is absolutely never a time to hit a child, this type of rationalizing is not possible.

Obviously, it works both ways. A parent who watches her child get hit by a bus will rationalize it by saying "The expert on the radio said it was never acceptable to touch a child. I did nothing wrong."

Maybe we should stop having "experts" give their opinions. It doesn't seem to accomplish anything. The Onion nailed it:

Agreed, but that's assuming that the mother was negotiating with the child. This may have happened while the mother was climbing out of and circling the car to yank up her brat and give her the ass-whuppin' she so deserved. Death can come very quickly when one decides to sit in a dark street.

And yeah, I agree with you that people need to stop making excuses for children over five. A thirteen year old throwing a tantrum by sitting in the street until she gets her way is severely defective. Maybe too young for a Darwin Award - maybe - but certainly severely defective. Saying "they don't think like adults" to excuse that kind of stupid is just, well, stupid. That kind of rationalization is what leads a thirteen year old to think feel that sitting in the street until she gets her way is a valid tactic.

It's a tragedy in principle, but in this specific example I can't help but feel that the gene pool just got a bit o' chlorine. And yeah, I feel bad for feeling that, but damn we already have such a surplus of stupid and entitled.

Pretty much, yea.

To not disciple your child is a form of child abuse.

There was once a time, like when I was growing up, children were afraid of breaking the rules because they would get their ass beat.

Today, what are kids afraid of? Nothing. Parents touch the child, the child speed dials 911 on their new smart phone.

Oh the horror of a disciplined child that was afraid to piss mom or dad off.

Welcome to the generation of entitlement. They are entitled not to be disciplined and live their lives as they see fit. When the kids grow up to be spoiled brats who are not capable of making it in the real world do not complain.

Discipline teaches for every bad decision there is an opposite reaction. Get a junk degree and can not find a job, it is not their fault.

.

Beating a 13 year old? Serious? The last time my mom tried to spank me was age 14, at that time I was 5 inches taller than her and 40 lbs heavier. I told her that was not going to happen. It did not happen. She was afraid to tell my dad because at that point I was probably stronger than him as well. It was strictly a might makes right situation. If you are more powerful than the other person, you can assualt them, if you are not, not so much.

I quit spanking both of my kids before the age of 5. Once I could communicate with language, spankings were unnecessary.

If a 13 year old sits in the middle of the road, that is more a sympton of stupidity, inbreeding, Southern education, etc.... I simply can't imagine my kids or any of their friends doing something so utterly retarded.

Funny, 'cause the only time I've heard of an adult doing that same thing was a guy from Michigan. One of our state troopers pulled him over for speeding, and while the trooper was writing him up he heard tires lock up and an air horn blaring. Looking around he saw the dude laying in the Interstate with a road tractor-trailer desperately trying to stop. Lewis ran over and snatched him up (Lewis is seriously big) and yelled "What are you doing?" To which the man replied "I protestin'." Instead of a ticket he got to spend a few nights in a southern jail and spend some quality time with his fellow protesters.

As far as myself, I can't imagine my children (or grandchildren) doing this either, because they are disciplined. And I would never have told either of my parents I was not submitting to a beating; it's a matter of respect, not a matter of might makes right. Luckily I never had to as discipline was established early on.

I think most of us could grab and hold a teenager and move them off the road without hurting them. Sure they may get a bruise on the arm but it beats dying.

A mother... moving a 13 year old girl who is likely the same size she is... and you think that's no contest?
