http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/03/03/car-kills-florida-girl-who-sat-in-road-during-family-argument/

APOPKA, Fla. – Police say a car fatally struck a 13-year-old central Florida girl who was sitting in the road after arguing with her mother and friends.

Apopka police Capt. Randy Fernandez told the Orlando Sentinel that 13-year-old Trinity Bachmann was angry about who would get to sit in the front seat as her mother drove home from the Central Florida Fair in Orlando on Saturday night.

Police say 36-year-old Janice Pedroza had dropped off one of the friends before the argument broke out. Bachmann got out of the car and sat down on a dimly lit stretch of road. Her mother pleaded with her to get back in the car, but she refused. A passing car hit them, killing the teen and injuring her mother.

Authorities are investigating the crash.

WTF? the little brat decides to SIT IN THE ROAD? and the mother does not get up and drag her ass off?

didn't they see the car coming? or did it not have lights on?

I'm in fucking shock that they thought it was a good idea to sit in the middle of the road and have a tantrum.

I'm thinking a 13 yo needs to be forcibly removed from the road.

yup

I am all for kids having an identity and choices but if they are being real idiots I would remove them forcibly from the road.

Sorry for this family but this could have been awarded if they probably didnt enable bullshit behavior.

Sad

While I understand and respect what you posted, parents have reached a point where they are afraid to touch their children.

Mother grabs child, bystander calls police, mother is arrested for assault. But hey, at least the child would be alive.

Then again, how many children die from drugs and other bad behavior because the parents did not discipline the child? I wonder if the child that was killed ever had her ass tore up with a leather belt?

I feel the parents are not to blame but rather a political correct society that demonizes discipline.

?? Perhaps the delusional nutters who love abusing children are afraid. Rational people have no fears whatsoever. I am in the latter camp, what camp are you in Tex?

Society demonizes discipline that is too harsh, it does not demonize all discipline. We've seen and see the effects of harsh discipline, discipline just for disciplines sake, etc. And most of those examples are the result of lazy parenting.

I have no problem with this story. If a kid is that stupid, they die and the world becomes a slightly better place.

Tragic story. People mocking the family or feeling the child deserved it are despicable.

I wouldn't say she deserved death as punishment for her stupidity, but I tend to have very little sympathy for people who bring bad things upon themselves. It's not like it was a tragic accident where she was just on the way home with mom and they got hit/hurt/killed by some drunk driver. That would be tragic. She got out and sat in the middle of the road and refused to get out of the road. Oh well.

She is 13 years old man. They do not think like adults. And even if she was mentally ill and "natural selection" took her like the "darwin award" mocks, then its still tragic and not something to laugh about or openly mock. The "darwin award" stuff has always made me feel strange, people bringing positivity to human suffering is messed up.

One of the few Darwin Award threads where the subject actually meets the definition. Kudos.

I don't think this is a particularly good example of the Darwin award, for a number of reasons.

(1)...The driver may have been drunk driving. Some details are emerging, but the Police have not finished checking the results or something.

(2)...The mother was in the process of moving the child to safety, when they were hit.

(3)...The relatively young age of the child.

I.e. If you are young enough, it is NOT really a Darwin award, just a fact of life, that people are initially born, uneducated/inexperienced/immature.

If they had been an adult, then the Darwin award would be more appropriate.

E.g. Would you blame a baby, if they ended up killing themselves, for silly reasons. Like touching a live mains cable.

But on the other hand, 13 years old, should be enough, to have a degree of responsibility and sensibility.

Yes, its one of the reasons I hate children. Absolutely no concept of self preservation.

Physically assault the teen? That's child abuse, mother would go to jail.
Exactly.

No. It's the functional equivalent of the mom who was shot by her toddler, who managed to fire the gun while it was in her purse. If your own stupidity gets you killed, I have no real sympathy.

Shrug.

I saw a video like that on break.com or something. It was a man holding a toddler. The toddler pulled the man's gun and shot the man in the gut. The man had one of those chest holsters. He died as a result of that.

Since you never make any mistakes that could, with a slight chance, get you killed. I bet you do one a day, but that small, remote possibility doesn't play out. Good for you and for most people, but not for the few that those small possibilities do get them killed. It is especially tragic when it involves children that aren't mentally fully formed.

Even people that get to the point of voluntarily committing suicide should get a normal human being's sympathy.

LMAO! +1

Mixed feelings. I think maybe 13 is a little too young for a Darwin Award, although anything over 6 is too old for me to sympathize with a child sitting in the road throwing a tantrum.
