I would argue that he wasn't "nearly hit". He clearly sees the train coming and he stops short. So while he was close to a moving train, saying he was nearly hit was simply for the click-bait.

Also, for a Darwin Award you have to be dead. Since he wasn't even injured, he certainly isn't a Darwin Award contestant (whatever the eff that is suppose to mean).

"Contestant" implies that person knowingly participates in a competition. Not sure what the OP means. "Candidate" is the appropriate word. 😉
