I may have been a little harsh, but this guy is a waste. If he had been any joe blow on the street instead of famous baseball player, he would have been in jail years ago.

My 2 cents:

The ransom call was either Darrell himself or a friend of Darrell trying to come up with a way of keeping Darrell out of jail after he never reported back to his apartment. Anyway, he does have a drug problem, which has taken over his life. The steps that have been taken so far have not helped Darrell kick his habit. Maybe jail time will help him kick the habit. Who knows.

When someone assumes a role in the public, where small children and young adults idolize that person, they have an OBLIGATION to stay clean, and somewhat on the straight and narrow. How much of MY tax dollars (I live 2-3 miles from him) have gone to useless counseling, City time, ploiceperson time. I hope no one breaks into my house while that sh!tbag is on the loose, there will be a few LESS cops, as they will be looking for this fool.

I felt sorry for him the first time, but after that, he's just an everday loser.

i highly doubt that he is kidnapped. its mroe likely that he's doin drugs and thats why he's not going to the rehab center. so he has a friend place the call so he wont get busted, or so he thinks

Jeez louise, people sure do get their knickers in a twist sometimes! Without getting into the whole social-contract part of what you are saying (with which I take issue), I have a hard time seeing why another person's self-destructive, foolish behavior could make someone so irate. Daryll Strawberry is pathetic and a loser by anyone's definition, but it seems pointlessly judgmental to call him &quot;a disgusting piece of human garbage&quot;. He is NOT O.J. Simpson, and there is no indication he has hurt anyone other than himself.

I suspect any of your tax dollars that have gone toward treating Daryll Strawberry have been more than compensated by the amounts he has paid in fines.
