This is the worst episode for me (by far). Hell, I even bought that the Enterprise gave birth to an alien lifeform.

technically... didnt it just incubate it in the warp core? i mean, giving birth would have been silly :p

hmmmm warm plasma glow.

Anyway isn't the chinese language sort of like the tamarian's? I can't find any examples but I seem to remember a lot of modern words and concepts written chinese translate in a literal way to simple metaphors.

Which ep was that? Or do you mean when the Enterprise just fed that little youngster that thought it was its mother?

One of the best ST:TNG episodes, ever.

I dislike any episode with Troi's mom and Q.

Dr Crusher...

There was no "before" Crusher. She was on the first season and returned beginning with the 3rd season. The doctor during the second season was Dr. Pulaski (Diana Muldaur whom I never liked because I remembered her from L.A. Law - what a great TV death, though).

I agree completely with eps containing Lwaxana, she was so incredibly annoying it hurt. Same with Pulaski and Alexander. Hated all three of those characters and most episodes where they were prominent. But Q? Q episodes rocked!

Q episodes made me as annoyed to watch as they made Picard to be in them.

I was about to mention this. There are a number of chinese fables/allegories that are summarized by 4 characters. Mentioning these stories by their name will be instantly recognized by most people educated by the traditional chinese school system. This ST:TNG ep just takes it to the logical extreme.

The only "flaw" I see is educating people about the stories (perhaps watching videos with simple pronoun labels?) but there's still the need for a "boot-strapping" phase in childhood. Either that or they learn all of the stories telepathically or through their parents, who knows.

Maybe that was the one. All I remember was there was some alien lifeform inside the Enterprise and they couldn't move and then it left end of the show.

Yeah same ep. They accidentally killed it's mother and then it latched onto the Enterprise for the duration of ep.

2) Are you really going to bitch about that? No kidding it doesn't make sense to only speak in metaphor.. are you going to complain about the universal translator next?

Better yet while we're on the topic, I just finished watching the ep when Geordi and Ro get stuck "out of phase" in a transporter accident with an experimental Romulan engine. So here's the problem, they can pass through solid objects/people without a problem, but yet they have no problem walking around the ship without falling through the floor? In fact, they're actually walking so there must be a frictional force in relation to their feet and the floor (which requires a normal force .. which requires behind pushed on by the ground) so clearly this DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE. Same holds true for any show/movie with ghosts that pass through walls/doors without a problem and yet are still somehow bound by the ground. At least that complaint is somewhat based on science and it's still lame!

Why would a Wookiee, an eight-foot tall Wookiee, want to live on Endor, with a bunch of two-foot tall Ewoks? That does not make sense! But more important, you have to ask yourself: What does this have to do with this case? Nothing.

If Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must acquit!

technically it isn't metaphor, it's allusion. but 90% of the viewing audience wouldn't know the term, so they went with ol dependable "metaphor".
it's a good episode, but yes the premise makes absolutely no sense.

1. no, it was the episode where the ship's computer gets so awesome that it shits out a highly evolved ball of energy

2. which is worse, star trek or star wars? you change the outcome by watching either.

3. since st and sw have been mentioned, i will preemptively put down the rocky horror picture show to stop this thread from bring about the lamepocalypse.

Maybe it's similar to how Rodney Dangerfield's dad taught him how to swim, with the burlap bag and all.

The parents just drop their kids off at some planet to fight an invisible alien, saying only "You and Jalad at Tanagra" before leaving. Only the strong and mildly confused survive.

I learn something new here everyday. Please feel free to mention the four stories by name taught to you in the Chinese school system.

Crusher was the original doctor. Pulaski came on in S2, then Crusher for S3-S7

This was the episode that had the visual effect blooper where Riker fired the ship's phaser and the beam came out of the torpedo tube. It looked really strange. I remember my wife (who hates Star Trek) even mentioned it when it aired.
