Darkstar One

Reading about this game today at gamestop. Seems like it might be a good title to purchase. Anyone try it?

Anyone played both this and Freelancer?

I loved Freelancer.. didn't quite like X3:Reunion.. wondering if Darkstar One is worth playing.

i don't think anything can beat independence war 2. That game's physics was awesome, and made the game. IW2's travelling btwn bases, and then btwn stars was very very interesting. That game showed real space depth. I just wish the game had more content. I really hope they make another Independence War. X was promising, until I played my friend's copy. I really like how it's open ended and such, but the travelling btwn systems doesn't feel like you're in space and in 1 seamless universe like IW series. Also, the physics in it sucks.

I liked freelancer as more of an arcade shooter, and nothing more.

IW2 is by far the best space game that came out ever. If they can meld IW2 w/ X, then that'd be so kick ass. X's navigating btwn the systems feels worse than freelancer's.

Darkstar One is more like Freelancer than X3. The ship is very agile and a lot of the movement you rely on your lateral thrusters and reverse thrusters. Unfortunately, you only get fly one ship, but that one ship is upgradeable to a completely different beast.

hey, totally agree with you on I-War 2.

it's not only the physics system but the way you can modify your ship and the guns available. X3 Reunion you had like the best ship and the best guns right off the bat! The only "better" ships are only bigger and then they become so slow and it's no fun to fly. In I-War2 there was a great progression of ships and guns so the game just got better and better.

It is by far my most favorite space sim/rpg. I have tried Freelancer and X3 reunion and have pretty much the same conclusions as you with them too. Hey if you ever find a new space sim you like be sure to fill me in because I bet i'd like it too

I have owned a copy of Darkstar One the day it was released but unfortunately it did not support my Hat switch butons on my joystick so that made the game completely unplayabe. Playing a space sim type game with no joystick is like eating cookies without milk! I think they might have a patch since then that fixed that but I haven't had the time to try... caught up in Gothic 3 now.
