Thought the first Darksiders was pretty cool, but only played it on the 360. Looking hard for a new game tonight and I see Darksiders 2 is released.

Metacritic stop - a 90 and a 88 from the first two reviews (360 reviews, but apply to PC version as far as gameplay), and some suprises reading the blurbs - 'bigger and better'.

Tempted to bite and buy this now, but I've been regularly having buyer's remorse when buying new games over the last few years. Anyone been playing it?

I'm waiting for my collector's edition to come in. The THQ store was the only store to sell it for the PC. :(

Just played for about 3.5 hours. If you liked the first one you will like this one, it is bigger and better. Death plays so different from how War did. War was about brute force and was slow, Death is so damn agile and makes mince meat of stuff with his attacks being so fast and dual wielding weapons. You can use different weapons to change have you fight a lot, there are scythes, claws, axes, hammers so far I've come across, the axes and hammers are big 2 handed weapons that will bring the pain but are slow to attack with while scythes and claws are shredding machines.

Death himself is damn quick and he climbs up and runs on walls and uses a lot of stuff to jump to and from to move around the environments. This one has a lot more RPGish features, you level up and have 2 different skill trees you can select from, kills drop loot as well as chests, besides weapons you have all the normal slots of armor and a talisman. You can buy and sell stuff from various vendors as well. There are possessed weapons that you can feed other weapons to it to level it up as well. You have abilities like the first game but there are much more like spells and wrath is treated like mana with Death. Lots of things to collect for various stuff as well too.

It has the same amount of options as the first one did as far as config goes (aka pretty much none), but the game does look very nice and seems to be stable.

I'm enjoying it and am happy so far.

If you are looking to get it, try http://getgamesgo.com/product/darksiders-ii-limited-edition it is $38. I dunno when the price will change, since it is a Steamworks game, no matter where you buy it for the PC you need Steam to play it. Getgamesgo will email you a Steam key and tell you to plug it into Steam to install.

I soooooooo want to get this, but I am holding off until Thanksgiving because 1) I have too many other games to play and 2) waiting for price to drop.

Note that there's some free 2H axe that you can get on Facebook from the Darksiders fan page. At least when I grabbed it, it was available on all three systems. Unfortunately, I can't actually enter the Steam code until I have the game attached. :p

EDIT:

Ugh, THQ... why do you hate me so!? They sent me my pre-order bonus code, which I also cannot enter until the game is attached to Steam. :p

I picked up this and sleeping dogs today. So far, all I've done with sleeping dogs is to configure it, and import the SLI profile. I've given this a few hours, and so far, so good.

I'm using a gamepad on it, and it still has high resolution free-aim issues like darksiders did, but so far, aiming has not been a time-sensitive activity.

Also, the gun has issues in free-aim mode. Where you hit doesn't really match with the reticle (maybe since you fire slightly across the screen?). I was aiming at some bombs on the wall earlier, and aiming at the bombs neither highlighted, nor hit them. I had to aim a random distance to the left.

Other than that, and enemy health bars appearing in the wrong place and enlarged sometimes, so far so good.

I wish there were an SLI profile ready for it, not because I need the extra HP (it stays over 110FPS all the time at 2560x1600), but that it keeps the temps down instead of putting the entire load on one video card.

So I've put about 10 hours total in so far and been loving it. So much to do if you aren't looking to just do the main storyline.

Ferzerp, I noticed the same thing with the aiming as well (also happens using the constructs chain). Thankfully there hasn't been any real need for quick aiming (one spot but it was so damn large I doubt you could miss as long as you aimed in the direction lol).

Overall the game itself is excellent and setup nicely. The port is probably on par with the first one but a bit more stable. So if you enjoyed the first one you will love this one.

One word of warning...do not ever upgrade a posessed weapon fully. I say this because you will 1 shot normal enemies every time and when you fight a boss you can press the attack button 5 times and win. Yes that's right...

So don't bother upgrading everything up because you will have one boring experience. So much so that I threw away my fully upgraded weapon and used something weaker. When a normal attack is doing 1k damage per swing it's not very fun.

One thing I forgot to mention, I love the soundtrack, it was the first thing and continually grabs my attention while playing.

Thankfully, while Digital River and THQ haven't been much help in telling me where my game is, being registered at UPS has its uses! They will detect when a package is being shipped to your address, and they will e-mail you updates. I received some e-mail telling me, "hey bud, yer gunna get something from Digital River on Thursday!" Looks like I have time to beat the original still! ;)

I like the game but I can't help thinking to myself every time I look at the shadows or textures that it is not a pc game in the purest sense. It is still fun though.

Btw: FXAA Injector works on it so you can get a little bit of a sharper picture, some AA (still not very good), and if you mess with the colors and turn on bloom etc get an overall better picture. Worth experimenting IMO.

Was really looking forward to Darksiders 2. First impression is a mixed. World is fun, but it's painful how bad of a port job this game is. Literally not one iota of love for PC gamers other than the fact you can buy it for PC. Shame b/c the world would really shine with PC minded options. So now i'm just seeing a port job and a weak one at that.

Get Games Go has the "Limited" edition for $39 until the 21st. Comes with a couple weapons and access to the DLC in October. Good Deal?

if the game looks at least as well as darksiders 1 does...then i have no problem with the "no improvement" port

i cant wait to play this game...looks like this one will be the REAL game of the year (instead of a good - but not great - max payne 3 and a good - with a lot of debate - diablo 3)

Psst, you're forgetting about another game that also happens to be a first sequel and comes out in about a month! ;)

The more I read about it, including no options but gamma tweaking, and no ini file to tweak the video (which was promised), the more I'm putting it off til it hits $19.99.

Apparently your reticle/center of screen moves left when you strafe left, and right when you strafe right, and this has to be my biggest issue atm. I've fought camera control schemes before, but never had to fight actual binds.

really enjoying it so far. i don't have any issues aiming or controlling - do wish there were more video options though.

voicing is excellent. environments are excellent in terms of scale/layout, and the puzzle elements are well done so far (though graphically nothing special..especially the shadows, which are pretty bad)

combat is fun and fluid. lots of different item choices that are way more meaningful than in DS1. the leveling system adds another layer of depth. i went with reaper so i'm just a beast...or i'd like to think i am :D

I too am playing it and am happy. If you like the first, you will like the second.

The only issue I have with the game, and its minor (to me at least), is that the FOV sucks. Its like Kingdom of Amalur all over again. I like seeing my character, but I don't particularly care for staring at his bony ass up close all the time.

Voice acting is top notch. Story is fairly good too. A bit odd. But so was the first.
