I've been playin wow the last few days but I managed to boot up ds2 and I realized why I was having so much trouble fighting.. I was double clicking every swing and with KB+M thats the strong attack that takes longer.. GG. I'm also abusing the fact that enemies only spawn 15 times :p

noob edit: yey killed the first boss imdabes

Did some PVP last night to get my dragon scales. Iron Keep is a great spot for that. I beat my invaders 100% of the time. But when I invaded (dragon covenant) I found I had about a 60-70% win rate. I found some people have some really cheap tactics. There is a Samurai sword that has ridiculous range (or it was lag) and there was this one guy who broke my shield guard and one shot with me a tiny dagger (2000 HP). There are a lot of dual Avalon poison arrows guys which I think is a bit OP. Then there are some people with this wicked staff that keeps twirling around and hits you constantly until you die. So, I do see a few weapons that have too long of a reach.

Anyhow, aside from some people who truly are trying to cheese the system, it was a blast. Definitely some skilled people out there. But a lot of it just has to do with the weapon type.

Just got summoned as a grey spirit, on my screen the guy swung at me and missed by a mile and three tenths and no register.. but a full 2 seconds later my health bar is down half way.

Honestly just don't see the appeal of the PvP with netcode that makes Dice's programming look amazing, I can't think of a single game with that much delay. Doom 1 on my 19200 connection was seriously better, not trying to exaggerate either.

Beat NG with my first character under 2M SM. I then went into NG+ and am finding it easier than NG. My character is faith based, with the potential for hex, but I haven't used hex at all on this character, nor have I needed too. Sitting at around 5M SM right now and almost cleared NG+

Definitely on par with Dark Souls. Not sure which one I like better... It seems Dark Souls had better level design. Everything fit together in a unique way. This one has a lot more forks in the road and dead ends. At least, it feels that way.

I really liked both but I felt DS2 was a bit more linear in level design. The last boss should have been a bit harder as well. =]

What a great game. I've never played any of this series before but I picked up ds2 on PC and I'm still at the early game. It's pretty confusing in ways but I haven't felt this much tension and thrill in a game in a long time

Play the 1st, its so much better than the 2nd in a lot ways. I know its your first entry in the series but you should really get around to playing the 1st if you can, its that's the true Souls game in my opinion. Put in over 500hrs on the 1st, 200hr on the 2nd. DS2 isn't a bad game but it doesn't live up to the original, for me the original is a true masterpiece so its very hard to live up to that.

Oh and if you think this game has tension, you have no idea the hell hole Blighttown is on a first playthrough of DS is.

Your ass will be clenched firmly.

One thing DS1 does miles better than 2 is the bosses. Man they are so forgettable in DS2.

Finally finished last night. (Spoilers if you're trying to avoid info on the game mechanics).

I'd say DS2 feels easier than DS1, but it's hard to determine how much of that is from the fact that it's infinitely easier going into DS2 having a working knowledge of the game mechanics, versus DS1 which I basically went into blind.

It did feel like bonfires were more frequent and spaced closer toward each other, but I have no objective data verifying this.

The ability to teleport between bonfires from the start of the game also took away some of the slogging difficulty from the first game. It made it a lot easier to explore compared to DS1, knowing you could just skip over difficult areas by porting around, compared to DS1, where you'd have to slog through Blight Town multiple times if you didn't have the ability to teleport yet and didn't finish it all through way through the first time.

It's also much less soul draining knowing that enemies will stop spawning after you kill them 15 or so times. Nothing was quite as demoralizing as getting killed by a boss in DS1 and knowing that you had to grind through all the trash mobs on the way just to challenge the boss again.

First run through was a Str/Dex melee build, which worked out okay. After I beat it, I started a new game as a pure caster Int/Faith build and find it to be significantly easier than a melee build. Might just be familiarity with the game, though. Got through five of the bosses in one night without any trouble.
