Dark output problem

Hi,
I have a "Real 3D Starfighter 8MB AGP" and while it is detected correctly and everything, the output is really dark, almost all black. I can only read really bright text on a really dark background.

In Windows I don't see anything at all, but if I access the machine through VNC, everything looks okay - Windows detects it and all.

Just to give you an idea, if I go in the BIOS the letters are like *very very* dark gray against a black background (it's usually white on blue). It took me like 5 minutes to figure out how to change my secondary master from None to Auto... Is there some setting that could fix this, or I should return the card to the seller?

Thanks!

EDIT: just in case, it's Intel i740 based

I used the monitor from my main machine. The machine where the faulty video card is normally isn't plugged to a monitor except when I need to reformat it or when it is frozen and I can't access it via VNC.
