Dark Messiah of Might and Magic

I have this game, and have never installed it. It came with one of my video card purchases last year.

Is this a good game to try ?
Has anyone here played it ?

Yes it is good.
It got poor reviews due to instability issues.
Game played trouble free for me using the no-cd crack. (no STEAM)

I personally consider this one of the most UNDERrated recent releases.

I loved it!

It ran great for me, and I liked it better than HL2. It's basically just a FPS with the smallest hint of RPG elements, but that was perfect for me. I'm not the biggest RPG fan.

I liked it a lot. I don't get why it got such bad reviews. I read some reviews and they don't make mention of the stability issues MTDEW mentioned. It's a good game; good use of physics to kill enemies (like all Source based games 😉),RPG elements to make your character more interesting, multiple endings (I think there's four), and a good way to let out your aggressions. 🙂

I just remember seeing a review in Pc Gamer magazine knocking the game and giving it a low score for stability issues.
I remember it because i couldnt believe the low score, i LOVED the game and i usually trust Pc Gamer reviews, but on this game, they were off the mark IMO.
So did gamespot. http://www.gamespot.com/pc/act....html?tag=tabs;reviews

And so are a LOT of other reviews giving it low scores wrong, it really was a GREAT game.

Sounds like majority rules 🙂

Ok, I will install it and give it a good run through to see what I think. But by the sounds of it, you all like what I like, so I should love this game then.

Thanks guys

From a quick glance at the games forums, the stability issues are if you install the multiplayer options, so if you're not doing multiplayer just install the single player options.
I know i never did multiplayer, so that must be what i did when i installed / played it.

Yea, good point. I don't plan on playing it multiplayer. Just single player. So I should be good then.

Hello.

Yes it is a fun game. I liked HL2 better, but DMofMM is a blast. Anything by Source old or new is really good.
I lose myself in the multiplayer once a week. Only 5-6 maps, but it is more intense than a lot of other FPS games. Steep learning curve though. The single player is definitely rated R , but multiplayer is a fun experience and PG.

Replay value for me though, was kinda' low.

Yep, that is the same card I purchased when I received it as well. 🙂

Another vote for good game. This was a real sleeper for me. Didn't hear too much about it and it got so/so reviews. And when you did hear about it, it was from people so frustated it was freezing/crashing. I never had any problems w/ the latest patch.

I thought it was a great game, not to deep or involved, almost like a HL2 with sword fighting. I ended up getting it about a year late though.

It took me a little while to play it long enough to get into it. Once I did get into it, it's a fun first person shooter with swords and some minimal RPG elements. It's worth a play through.

I enjoyed this game quite a bit in the single player. The main plot is overall pretty linear, as are the levels. The game plays different with different characters though, mage, thief warrior or a mix of those different powers. I liked the different choices and endings.

I really didn't have any stability issues...I had a bug where I got stuck in a wall by jumping onto a rope arrow's rope while it was still swinging, other than that I can't remember any problems. I did play it after it had been out for 6 months so I think they patched it up.

The sword combat is really fun, the special effects are really cool.

Definitely a fun game, but no way does it touch Half-Life 2. The HL series is about as close to perfect as you can get in story-based shooters.

DMMaM's story is your typical fantasy fare, and the graphics are fine, but the real good stuff is found in the combat, plain and simple. There's a lot of stuff you can do combining magic, weapons, and the environment for hilarious fun fights.

It's definitely worth buying.

By the way, as far as reviews go, there are only two websites out there that don't completely suck at it:

EuroGamer
1up

These are the only two you need to read about *any* game. Most of the time, I only go to see what EuroGamer says, because even 1up is losing the touch these days.

I liked it as it was very enjoyable.

The Pros:
Well done AI. Just SOOO many ways to kill things and bait and trap the computer AI. Any route you take from archer, to sword fighter, to stealth assassin, to magic blaster all work and work well. You can kind of overlap a few of the classes and do well too. Also, the environment plays a big role in the game from how well you are hidden to the so many ways to kill people with the objects around you. such as spikes on a garden fence, to dropping a candelabra on top of a group of people. As such, paying attention to an area is key.

I found the most fun I had in the game was coming to a new room or area, saving and constantly reloading the area after trying as many different ways as I could to dismember the bad guys there.

The story is well done, and keeps you gripped into the game and moving along as you feel very immersed with the character, or at least I was.

The Cons:

Length. The game is SHORT! or should I say SHO! 🙂

If you really felt like it, you can breeze through the game in one sitting. I say don't and take your time coming up with strategies and don't be tempted to use a walkthrough guide unless you REALLY are stuck.

Ladders and ropes in this game when climbing up are awkward to say the least. For some reason, near very beginning of the game you are forced to jump to a rope, climb up it some and jump off it to a higher platform. You can't swing the rope and it sort of jiggles in the direction you want every so often. If you stay to long on the rope or miss time the jump, you die. I think also the jumping in this game leaves a bit to be desired as a few of the jumping puzzles are really annoying. Be prepared to save often and do it over and over and over again.

Also, the spiders in this game sound like really REALLY big dogs. That's right, and not any kind of dogs, the kind that came from hell with their loud low growls. It's a bit wierd.

From a gameplay standpoint, those are the pro's and cons. I didn't experience any technical difficulties as I used steam which gave me the latest patch automatically. However, is you don't use steam and are looking for the latest patch for the game, all I can say is good luck. I couldn't find it and had to use steam to get it.

I have played the Single Player game at least 5x. Be sure to load the latest patch for it; I get all my patches from Gamershell.com.

It is an EXCELLENT game the physics and AI are superb, IMO. It's a really fun game with some difficult spots; save often.

It's about 75% FPS 25% RPG. How you build your character definitely affects how you must play the game. I.E. relying on your sword or magic. The different weapons you find are really great too.

I have always wondered why they never made a sequel to the game. It looks beautiful, runs glitch-free and has an engaging story line.

Due to this thread I started playing it and I just SUCK at the combat, keep dying at the spot after you wake up 🙁

I thought it was really fun too. It got canned by critics really badly, scores below 5/10 and such which is insanely unfair if you ask me. The combat in this is what melee FPS should be, its the combat I wish Oblivion had. The kick is overpowered in it, but there is a simple solution, don't use it. If you want to have fun there are tons of ways to kill guys, it seems really stupid to use kick through the whole game just because its easier.
