There's also a way to unlock the next part of the demo. I haven't done it yet so lets hear how it is people.

I tried about 7 times to DL from gamespy/fileplanet's free servers, failed every time. To test that it wasn't my ISP or PC, I DL'ed 2 CD FC5 ISOs w/o problems. Then DL'ed FC5 DVD ISO from BT, no problems.

Then I finally saw that this game was on filefront, I DL'ed w/o error the first attempt. I installed as a user in the Administrators group w/o any problems. However, when I run the game I get this message.

"A required security module cannot be activated.
This program cannot be executed (5017).

Please have a look at http://www.securom.com/message.asp?m=module&c=5017 for further, more detailed information."

I click on the http URL and the brilliant program links to a page which doesn't exist. The page says, "No message specified or message not available in this language"

BTW, I installed the Demo, I'm not sure why securom need to be brought into the realm of public release demos.

I disable Viruscan and SpySweeper, same problems continue. I have no other scanning type of programs.

The same user (in the Administrators group) can run BF2 just fine.

System is XP SP2, AMD64/3000+, X850XT, 1.5GB DRAM.

2 thumbs down until it works.

Anyone have any ideas to wolve this one?

The menu looks like that of a Source engine game (i.e. HL2). So does it use FP16 for HDR, or use Pixel Shaders like other Source games.

And no matter what I do, I can't get ANY AA. Disabled HDR, forced it in CP, NOTHING GET MY AA, AND I HATE JAGGIES!!!!!!!!!!111

Other than playing through the whole demo with no AA, it was pretty good.
Might buy this one.

Game is very fun and innovative in my opinion. Very polished... My only complaint with the game is that again (being source powered) the game seems to rely not on your main weapon, but upon your kicks. That is my main huge complaint with HL2. It barely gave you any ammo and pretty much required you to use the gravity gun for everything. In way, this is the same deal because the weapons are very underpowered... Unless you can get a special move just right, you are better off kicking them into the spikes, etc...

Anyway, the game is great fun! thumbs up from me.

whow...i was looking at a preview movie and i am downloading the demo this right now. This looks amazing !!!

Also..the source engine runs GREAT at least on my machine (XT850XT)....so i expect this actually to be playable !
There are recent games out which run like *** but Source is good :)

does it play the same as oblivion - meaning its extremely repetitive and has boring combat (block, slash, block, stab, block, block, slash).

so how is oblivion any different? as i recall, all i did was:

spell-spell-spell-block-slash-block-spell death.

at least this has a standard leveling system, not some retarded one that takes 50 hours to get a decent level, or (worst case), you "over level" and make the game too hard for your own character. wtf is up with that!

well...hmmmmmmmmm..........

this game (demo) feels more like a shooter to me...ok..it uses the source engine...but i miss RPG elements like conversations with other people....quests...etc.

The demo was VERY VERY short and basically you run around and use different fighting techniques...but i did NOT get into a good "RPG feeling" with it.

An RPG would at least require pickup of other party members, CREATION OF MY OWN MAIN CHARACTER (i refuse to play any RPG where i am forced with one fixed character)...weather (would be nice)....and various other stuff...just hacking/slashing doesnt a good RPG make :)

This was more like HL2 back in the middle-ages....not bad...but not really an RPG...MIGHT look into the full game tho...

Source engine looks great....besides from the occasional sound-stutter problem after/before loading... which the source engine has forever already.

explain ?

It uses the source engine..yeah and there are some physics....you can throw stuff and cut ropes etc...but NOTHING new what we dont have in HL2 already for ages.....i was constantly reminded it looks/feels like the "thief" series...and this i played years ago already also.

My install seems to be going fine... but when it's done and I click the icon to start the game I get nothing :( Guess I'll redownload and try again.

Just played through it. I liked it! Source engine makes for nice looking games that run well even on aging hardware. The combat is fun and involved, similar to Oblivion but with a little more variety.

That's where the similarities with Oblivion end, however (well, both have a fantasy setting, I guess). Oblivion is a full fledged, massive , open ended RPG. This is a linear action game with some RPG elements to spice things up a bit. Not that that is a bad thing, but I am a little intrigued by people comparing them, when they are in reality so different.

Nevertheless: was anybody else bothered by the textures? For the most part the demo looked great (and ran great, aside from the typical Source stuttering here and there which is solved by keeping the HDD defragged) but in some places the textures looked really low res. Hopefully they'll use higher resolution textures in the finished game. I will definetly buy it if the reviews are possitive.

Also: to geocorps and other who can't run the game: it's a common problem, and I experienced it too at first. Try this, instead of downloading again:

Go to your Steam/Steamapps/user/dark messiah of migh and magic folder and right click the MM.exe, go to the 'Compatibility' tab and check the 'Disable Visual Themes' box. Close Steam and try again. That ought to do it.

Space Invaders FTW
Game is pretty cool, but.. the demo is too short for my tastes.
That's why I loved Prey's demo. It gave you a good taste for the game, although it isn't a very good game.

Heh, sounds good! I got so pissed at the game design in Oblivion that it won't take much to make me happy.
