Dark Messiah M&M - how to get it to skip the intros and go straight to the menu?

My PC is quite speedy, but this game tries my patience. When you click the executable, you get the UBISOFT movie, then the developer movie....THEN you get the big long game intro movie.

Is there a way to modify the executable (/a /e /p /whatever) so that it goes straight to the menu and skips all that crap?

Thanks.

secondly, hit "Esc" to skip each intro ;)

[you're welcome]
:D

I don't see an answer to the OP's question.
What if it's too much work to hit "Esc" each time. The "esc" key is pretty far up there ya know ;)

Check it:
http://www.tweakguides.com/DMOMM_7.html

Under the Dark Messiah Icon Properties and below that there is an explanation of all the commands to use.
add -novid to the executable. OUTSIDE THE QUOTATIONS.

There are also some other nice tweaks there too.
Have fun :)

Thanks guys. I have no idea what chapter I'm in.

But where I'm at is: I just put the crystal on the altar, the gates close in front of me and 5 Orcs come in. The leader challenges me to a fight, no magic. I keep getting my ass kicked. :|

I've even went back to a save, gotten to that point, equipped an orc shield and my long sword, etc. I can't beat the guy. If I use magic, the other 4 jump in and it's over REAL quick.

Gonna look for a walkthru. :p

Heh, I found the Gamespot walkthru too! :D

WHAT "floor below?" It's a sealed room...no way to kick them over the edge like the cliff levels.

I may just start over and see if I can build the character differently. I refuse to cheat...but I am not above starting anew with good information. :D

well then, maybe we're not at the same spot. ... mine was a little later, i guess :p

i remember running past 5 orcs and kicking them into a crack in the floor ...
then the dragon ...
[which was the only thing in the walkthru i looked at ... kicked myself for not figuring it out ... ]

it is getting easier ... i got sufficient mele skills to survive and am building my magic attack ... i refuse to start over

one thing that works ... after a HARD fight when you are near death, put on the Ring of Regeneration and go take a 10 minute break [find a safe place for your Char] ... when you get back to the game you are healed up ... saves potions and mana. :)

this game i can be profligate with saves ... UNlike G3 [they took SO long you get old waiting]

Here's the funny thing about the part with the first dragon; she tells you how to kill it. She yells at you "lure it under the porticullus and pull the lever!" Duh! It takes her a minute to do it. THere's no other way to kill that thing, that's for sure.

AFA the part I referenced above, the fight with the Orc boss; I got pissed and started over. There's just no way to beat him. If you heal yourself with potions, it's "using magic" and then they all jump in. The room is sealed; there's nowhere to run to shoot arrows from a distance or anything.

I used magic exclusively the first time thru to get thru the spider caves. Those fire traps are a lifesaver! Melee is useless against the spiders b/c they keep poisoning you. Bastards!

I started over to build up my melee skills, specifically for the Orc guy fight. It's a shame, really; I was halfway thru the game and REALLY enjoying it. I like the cliffside parts where you're finding ways to get in/around the little houses. Shooting Orcs from a distance with the bows is fun. :D

BTW: How do you zoom with the bow? I haven't figured that out.

ps
Adding -novid into the executables properties works like a charm. Shaves an EASY one minute off the load time. Super.

The Orc boss hits very hard, but he goes down relatively just as quick as any other orc. Just keep retrying him until you get a few well placed hits in a row and the victory is yours.

Bow zooming requires a certain skill level in ranged. Once you have it, you need to hit whatever key is bound to bow zoom, check your options for which key that is.

Thanks, Skace. I guess I can go back and reload that game and keep trying...I only have about an hour invested in my new game. And he does hit REALLY hard. :( Two or three blows and I'm dead. If I try kicking him, he just picks me up and throws me. Big bully. :p I didn't know that there was a default key bound for zoom; I didn't RTFM! I just assumed it was the "default FPS" button, Mouse2 (right click) but that's not it. I'll RTM.

Yea, don't bother kicking him, don't bother blocking. Try to stay out of his range and only come within range to deliver power attacks.

Edit: I was a thief in my game, beat him with the dual weilding daggers and crummy thief armor. So it should be a lot easier with a decent sword or armor. I used the poison daggers on him.

How do you become a thief or any of the other classes? There's no option in the beginning of the game for that. Do you just use your skill points to strengthen the applicable skills? Ironically, I HAVE the poison daggers; found them in the coffin in that temple...the room with all the little goblins. But I can't USE them b/c I don't have enough stealth skills. Maybe I'll load that game, but an earlier save and try that. Great game though. I hope they come out with an expasion pack soon; the game is short.

Yea, it's just based on skill point allocation. I'm wearing thief armor, and double daggers, all my points are in the misc skills. none in magic, some in fighting. You should be able to beat him with a sword if you have anything decent, the daggers aren't a requirement, more so just an example of what I had available to me. But if all your weapons are worse than that... yea you may have issues.

Yea it is short, 9 hours short.

Well, out of the weapons I can actually use, I have a long sword, a fire staff (semi magical staff that does fire damage, but it's useless against him) and some small daggers.

zoom is 'r'
[i had to look in the manual the first time ...
... you didn't read it , did you?] :p

i am there right now
[my mistake ... ]

first of all, i mined the room with 4 fire traps [in case the other orcs jumped in] ... and used "sanctuary" scroll {which didn't activate the other orcs} then clobber the chief as hard as you can and avoid his blows.

you DO get 7 Skill points just for placing the gem ... IF you are QUICK, you can put it into mele if you choose just before the Orc cutscene [or 'save' it for lightning as i am trying to do ... i beat him once with the strength/weapons upgrade ... will reload tonight after work and try without mele upgrade]

i guess you're stuck with your sword ... just use your skill points wisely.
[best choice]

Oh, yeah ... ahem - two little words - "SPOILER ALERT"

PREPARE 4 fire trap scrolls you can lead the Orc thru ... hurry it will damage you if are also caught in the blast.

CAST "Sanctuary" scroll ... somehow it doesn't count as offensive magic and he can't hurt you as you chop away

piece of cake ... and i got Lightning

:)

Heheh, apparently, I'm not the only sneaky one.

I DID lay firetraps for the guy BEFORE I put the gem in it's receptacle. The traps stayed put just fine and went off when he ran thru them.

And of course, that was using magic so I got my butt stomped by all of them. Strange how it worked for you, but not me. Maybe b/c I placed them in advance, BEFORE placing the stone?

How did you have time after placing the stone to lay four traps? Hmm.

Anyway, some good tips on how to beat him hand to hand. I'll try tonight. :) Great game, this DMMM! To me, it's the perfect combination of FPS/Thief/and a small amount of RPG mixed together.

i laid the traps before i set the stone ...

IF he got hit by them - right away - the other orcs attacked ... if he followed me [to the right] where the traps were set [and i didn't get damaged] the other orcs stayed put.

ALSO, i experimented with "sanctuary" [i had ONE scroll] ... since it is "defensive" magic, it doesn't trigger the other Orcs ... cast it the instant he stops talking and start hacking away with your Sword [i used the lightning daggers] ... you have just enough time to drop him [he goes down twice, so beware] and hopefully can finish him with the adrenaline.

IF you are still having trouble ... use the 7 Skill points you get from placing the Stone and put it into mele. ;)

took me a 'few' times to get it down [without boosting mele]

... and THEN it gets 'hard'

i don't know about you guys that finish it is ten hours ... are you 'exploring"?

Explored everything except the cathedral, they wouldn't let an evil man in there. I didn't die very often though, so that helped.

there are a LOT of hidden stuff and optional SQs including two main endings and two alternate sub-Endings. ;)
[i didn't look at the details or it would spoil it ... but i don't want to miss *anything*
(i am like this in every game that i like)]

... i know i am 10 hours into it and in Chapter 6 ...

maybe you are just an awesome FPSer

I went back to the "ship level" last night, and when I got inside the temple, I managed to run down the hallway fast enough to avoid falling thru the floor into the spider tunnels. I bypassed the spiders completely!!!! :D That's awesome.

I have maxxed the first three melee skills and am working my way thru the level now. I'm playing with the giant Orc trying to kill him. I know it's optional, but I ran away the first time.

I'm just having too much fun w/this game; and isn't that the idea to begin with? :)

Freaking stupid game! :| I'm so pissed. I went back to the 1/2 way point of my prior game, rebuilt my character with most of the points on melee and I am still getting my ass kicked by the Orc in the Crystal Chamber. WTF?

I mean, it's not even 1% different than before when I had most of the points in magic!!

He hits me ONCE, even when I'm holding up my Orc buckler/shield thing and I'm down to 1/2 health. I'm never gonna beat this game.

Up to this point, it wasn't "easy" but it was beatable. Now, the difficulty seems to have suddenly increased by 10x. WTF?

Stop trying to block his hits with a shield. Attack first or get out of his way. Power attacks. Most of his moves are power attacks, you do not want to be blocking them.

You should host your save game somewhere so I can give it a shot if I still have dark messiah loaded at home.
