I say Becks Dark...my buddy says St. Pauli Girl Dark

They are both good dark beers but becks doesn't have the slight aftertaste that St. Pauli Girl does.....or is it just me?

We though we would let ATOT decide....whoever looses buys the next 12 pack :D

Both are lame as far as dark beers go, this is where microbrews shine. Becks is my favorite mainstream beer but I see no reason to buy their dark.

Where's the poll option for neither? ;)

Seriously, I don't conside either to be true "dark beer" -- they BOTH have the body and nearly the same taste of their respective "helles" counterparts.

My fav "dark beer" is Young's Double Chocolate Stout. Truly, 'tis no better libation in awl thee world!

Sorry, OP, if this seems like a thread crap.

Another vote for neither. You need to expand your horizons, those are pretty generic dark beers without a whole lot of personality.

Beer is beer. If it has alcohol in it, it's all good.

I get a kick of guys who say things like "Yes; St. Paulis Girl Dark has a much better nose than Heineken Dark...a bit more aromawood scent...yes" Give me a break! It's_BEER.

Granted; there's rotgut beer (Red Dog, Coors Light, Pabst, any American beer except Sam Adams) and then there's European beer, which is 100% better. But it's still beer.

Give me a single-malt whiskey any day. 10x the buzz with 10x less trips to the bathroom.

not a big fan of either, but I voted for St Pauli because -

A) They gave me a free poster back in my college days

and

B) It means you have to buy your friend a beer

I don't think he's asking "what's better?" or "what's the best dark beer?" he's asking us to choose which of the two listed is better.

But...everyone has to try and show off how much they know about dark beer or beer in general and how Becks and St Pauli Girl should never be drank by anyone that knows anything about beer.

I voted Becks Dark of the two. Never liked any of the St Pauli varieties much.

Drinking?s bad, you can potentially lose your mobile phone in the process. Trust me.

I like Dinkel Acker Dunkel for a German dark or perhaps Spaten. Beck's isn't bad, but it's far from the best German dark out there.

Ah, I am trying to remember the name of one of my favorite beers that I haven't had for years now. It had one of those ceramic pop tops like Grolsch, but it's a dark beer, pretty sure it's German. Darn!!! Someone help me out here?? I seem to recall a "B" in the name...
