...
On Jan. 5, Jacob was manning the turret in his Leopard 2 tank while providing overwatch during Operation Shamali Kamarband when he came under enemy fire. Jacob was shot in his right shoulder and fell down inside his tank. He immediately came back up after looking through his optics and located the enemy, engaged him and killed him by returning fire with his machine gun.
...
While talking with Toolan, Jacob recalled the events surrounding his second medical evacuation in a month.
...
Despite the fact that he had just been shot three times, Jacob instructed his crew from inside the tank on the location of the insurgent. They fired a 120mm round that fell short. However, the second round was a direct hit in the insurgent’s abdomen.
...

he certainly lives up to the old regiment motto "Fortes Fortuna Juvat" (fortune favors the brave (or bold depending on how you translate it)).
statistically I must have met this guy several times.

yeah that was a hell of a shot.

Eh... The targeting packages in modern tanks (I can only speak for the M1A2 and Leopard 2A6) are so incredibly precise and accurate now that a properly calibrated system with a competent gunner can hit man size targets out to 2km easily. They can do this while the tank is moving too, due to modern stabilization systems. Too bad most of Afghanistan is so inhospitable to tanks, terrain wise.

we use Leopard 2A5DKs in the danish army, it's an A6 but with an L/44 gun instead.

the terrain in Helmand is actually allright for tanks in most areas and you always felt a hell of a lot safer with a leopard parked on a ridge providing overwatch, you would hear the taliban shitting bricks over the radio.

Yep, nothing like air, arty and armor cover to make a fella feel a whole lot safer out in bad guy land. Not only did they take attention (and the munitions that go with that) away from lil 'ol me and my pea shooter, I got to shoot at the bad guys while getting shot at a whole lot less. Good for me and good for them (the bad guys).😛

I'm aware. That's why I said "most." 😉

Oh pffffft. You guys have viking blood. There is no excuse for him not ripping the Machine gun out of its turret, bull-rushing the shooter deflecting bullets as he goes, and finally pummeling the bastard to death. 😛
