Well i finally say the movie on DVD and i was impressed by his acting as the butcher. I beleive he won an oscar for "my left foot" way back...but his acting was SUPERB...the movie was ok....but i loved his character...what your 2 cents?

heck yeah, he was great!

i know he was supposed to be a villan of sorts, but the way he played the character, i just couldn't NOT like him

Yeah, he was awesome in that movie. Such a shame that the film's story didn't focus on
the conflict between him and Priest (Liam Neeson), that would have been 10x better.

Trying seeing him in A room with a View or Age of Innocence. Totally different character, but still convincing.

It's too bad he spends more time making shoes than movies.

Best Villan Ever!
He was really good, there was this one line that just made my spine tingle when he said it... brilliant

Daniel Day Lewis was the saving grace of Gangs of NY. I believe he deserves an Oscar for it myself.

I agree. If it wasn't for his acting, i would have walked out in the first 20 minutes.

I don't know about THE best villain ever, but definately in the top 5.

I love him as an actor and there were points in that movie that I just cringed from his words and expressions.

Wasnt he in "Last Of The Mohicans" also?? Great actor.

I also find Tim Roth interesting in the same way. (Rob Roy, Planet of the Apes) Very versatile.

If you like him in Gangs, check out "In the Name of the Father"

That movie is one of the best movies i've seen. Spectacular in that movie.

what plot? That movie would have been the same if you mixed the scenes around. Crappy movie. Lewis was the only reason I didn't feel cheated after watching the movie. And what is with the ending? That was the crappiest ending ever. I will list my beef now so

*****SPOILER ALERT****

1. The black guy in the dead rabbits. He was just thrown in there as the token black guy. He has no real purpose in the movie except to be lynched.

2. Why did decaprio save lewis from the assassin? What does it matter who kills him?

3. What is with Decaprio trying to kill lewis after Lewis takes him in and treats him like his own son? Ungrateful b1tch.

4. What is the deal with the ending? Lewis gets killed by shrapnel from a cannon ball? Lewis was owning decaprio.

5. Cameron Diaz didn't look too hot

She hasn't looked too hot since "The Mask".

Oh and...

6. The editing was terrible
7. The post-production work was dodgy, and those ending credits were worse than amateur

Aside from the first 5 minutes and Daniel Day Lewis, GoNY was a bad movie. If it weren't
for Martin Scorsese's name being attached to it, it probably would have only received
3-4 Oscar nominations instead of 10.

It's something called realism. The ending put everything into perspective: they're not completely in their own little world, they're part of something bigger... and the audience has to realize that.

You n00b! #3 is because of #4. Did you watch the movie backwards?
