Dangerous tornado outbreak expected tomorrow across the Plains

"A dangerous tornado outbreak is expect on Saturday over the Plains, says NOAA's Storm Prediction Center (SPC). SPC has issued their highest level of alert, a 'High Risk,' for portions of Oklahoma and Kansas for Saturday. Included in the 'High Risk' area are the cities of Wichita and Oklahoma City. This is the second time SPC has issued a 'High Risk' forecast this year; the first 'High Risk' forecast came for the March 2 tornado outbreak, which killed 41 people and did $1.5 - $2 billion in damage. It is very unusual for SPC to issue a 'High Risk' forecast more than a day in advance of a suspected tornado outbreak; today's 'High Risk' forecast is only the second time SPC has ever done this."

Edit - Updated the link to the convective map. The majority of Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska are at high risk for tornadoes.

I'm ready! Got a full tank of gas, my camera battery is charged. If anything happens, I just need to be in the right spot for pics and/or video. 🙂

Are you in Kansas or Oklahoma? It's on my bucket list to head up one Spring and chase a tornado.

Kansas. Will go to Oklahoma, if I think it will get me a good photo. 😀

I've gone out chasing, but never been in the right place at the right time with a camera in my hand. I've caught a couple of cold-air funnels and a dustnado, but no real tornadoes.

Well be safe. Haven't had a tornado hit Omaha since the 70s so we're due.......just hoping it isn't anything like the twisters from last year (Joplin) Some meteorologist friends of mine are going out chasing tomorrow. Cool stuff, sort of wish I had the nuts to handle it!

Same, I've been out in Eastern Colorado a few times and have only caught funnels myself. By the way, howdy neighbor. 😀

Thanks. The burbs around here got hit pretty bad back in 1993, so hopefully we're NOT due any time soon.

It doesn't take nuts - it takes smarts. I've been to weather spotter training several times, so I know what dangerous storms look like and where not to go. I'm confident I know how to get away from one, if it comes to that, but what scares me is getting out on unfamiliar back roads, and not having a route out.

I'm guessing your friends want to get a hell of a lot closer than I do! 😀
