I ALWAYS chew gum and ball at the same time. I don't know if it really makes a difference or not, but I find I have more energy and breathe more often when I chew gum. I also feel more relaxed and can bang shots in easier when I chew gum. I've been playing since high school and I can't remember a single instance where I've actually swallowed my gum do to playing. I HAVE on a couple of occasions, had the gum fall out of my mouth and onto the gym floor which isn't too good....
