I would like to try for higher but I'm chicken. I get errors with Internet Explorer ( has to close down) I do have the service pack installed. How much voltage is acceptable to get it to run at 2.1 or 2.2

What is the stepping of your chip?

Like:

AXDA1700DLT3C 0310 WPMW?

It'll also help for you to post your current specs in detail..

So, lemme get this straight. You took a 1.47GHz CPU and got it to 2GHz, and you're complaining? ;) Yes, I'm aware that the 1700+ is an OCing monster, but sometimes you just won't get as far as others. As far as voltage is concerned, you could probably go up to 1.9V and still be ok (least I have with my 1800+ with no problems).

its a DUTC3 0311 xpmw I think. I know its a DUTC3 though and I know the Us aren't as good as the Ls. Right now I have it running at 2.2@1.8v.... but games will crash back to the desktop....I don't know about 1.9V my mobo will only let it go to 1.85V.

specs:
XP1700
Asus A7N8XRev. 2 mobo
1x512MB Corsair XMS PC3200
Radeon 9500PRO Retail
Fortissimo lll 7.1 sound card
El Cheapo modem
Antec truepower 430 ps
Maxtor 20GB 7200RPM hdd...

It could just be as Ronin said, it just won't do that fast...

I'm using the Volcano 11 and it works great. My temp is 99F idle maybe 115F under a load.

the voltage requirement for a particular Mhz changes from chip to chip depending on the stepping. i can do 2100-2150Mhz on 1.6V, but others need more and others need less

I gotta agree with RoninCS. For $41 you are complaining about 2 Ghz? I also have 2 of the DUT3C stepping XP 1700+ cpu's mounted on a couple of MSI KT3 Ultra2 mainboards. One is good for 2.0 @1.625 volts, while the other has no problems running 2.1 Ghz at 1.625 volts. They might be able to go higher, but I am using "cost effective" Heatsinks and fans, and am happy to have stable, cool running systems. (Both are under 40 C at idle with hsf that cost less than $20 shipped) For less than $45 each, how can I complain?

Yeah, I know, but the whole point of buying these 1700s' is getting all you can get out of them, right? I can definetly live with 2Ghz on a 400Mhz bus.(10x200). But I gotta try, you know?;)

Kdog.. your temps aren't bad.. but you should still try a better hs and fan. I have a 0311 too although the L version. At first I had trouble getting over 2100 mhz no matter what voltage I would give it. I was using an ax7+ papst 12 fan then Since then I got as3, better chassie ventilation, an slk 900u and an enermax 120 mm fan (that I had to glue to the heatsink) :)

I am now priming away at 2400 mhz @ 46 c without a hitch :D

Since the 120 mm fan is so big it blows a good deal of air to the NB (which I put a zalman nb32j on instead of the noisy abit fan!!) and also on the memory.

So.. whatcha need is better cooling. plain and simple!.. I think that the by far biggest variable in overclocking is what cooling ppl use.. not so much between the processors.

Though.. if you are prepared to spend 100+ on cooling you may wanna just buy yourself a faster rated processor in the first place for an easier overclock :)
