Dang UPS?????

I don't often get UPS deliveries these days. I did get one yesterday. I watched their real time tracking PC app that showed where the truck was compared to my house, which is handy.

It so happens I have two UPS deliveries that are supposed to come today. Unfortunately, one of them requires my signature. That by itself bothers me because I'm covid "at risk" and don't want to handle their equipment or get closer than 6 feet from their driver. I figure I can maybe work that. But first, they have to get here. They sent me an email with a link to the real time truck location app but all day the truck is shown in one place, maybe 15 miles away. IOW, it's not working. I called them and eventually got a guy on the phone and he said he has no info regarding that app and that his info indicates it's on the truck and supposed to come 1-5PM, which is what I see online. Their info also said by 8PM and another place it says by 9PM.

Well, it's now 7:38PM and no sign of the truck/driver. I'm thinking the mapping app not working for me might mean the deliveries aren't happening either. Is that possible? That's unbelievably shitty, putting me on pins and needles waiting to sign for a delivery that's not coming, period. Is UPS that shitty?

thanks to the quarantine more people are ordering online. LOTS more orders.
UPS sorting centers are overworked, as are drivers. Mistakes are made even on a good day.

No surprise there, but (assuming my 2 deliveries promised me today never come) isn't it just a horrible thing for them to do, i.e. not warning me, telling me, hey bro, sorry, but they're coming tomorrow???

News flash! UPS tracking software isn't accurate and never had been. How do people still not know this? They have tracking apps for the same reason MB manufacturers have service departments so, they can say they have one.

So, the truck comes 5 minutes ago (8:38PM), the door's wide open and I'm on my laptop in the living room. He drops the two packages inside the door, says something and walks away. I call after him and tell him the truck tracking software wasn't working for his truck all day. He's a young guy, says he just drives the truck and doesn't know anything about the technical stuff. I say he should tell someone when he gets back and he says OK.

A couple months ago, the tracker was very accurate.

I bet they are so busy they sent their IT staff to go deliver orders and leaving no one behind to make sure the computers stuff is in order...

You can create an account on their website and pre-sign for packages that way.
Most of the time when my UPS packages are "signature required" they don't ask for one, they just put it on my front stoop, knock, and flee.

You don't need to sign anything. UPS and FedEx are waiving that right now for all signature required packages. They'll just drop it off and leave.

They generally didn't ask for signatures even before the plague.

Mine always asked for signatures on packages that required it. I order lot of high dollar items so many of my packages require it. Now the drivers just sign "Covid-19" themselves and leave the packages.

I have an account and I tried to call off the dogs on the signature but their system responded that I could only do that after a failed attempt to deliver. I've seen that ignoring of the sig requirement happening, don't know what to make of it. I mean if you take it literally it means they get your John Hancock or you don't get your wash.

Yup. I know a guy who delivers for FedEx and he said he's allowed to sign "C19" for deliveries.

I had the same thing happen to me last Saturday! The guy showed up late in the afternoon claiming he had came by several times already! He needed a signature, but instead took a picture of me with my package and went on his way! No signature!!

So, I went to Paypal and launched a dispute on the transaction and the auto response was that they'd ask the seller to grant me the refund. Pleasant as the seller was, I figured he'd comply. Only reason he wouldn't is that if done through Ebay, he would not get charged for the transaction by ebay. However, Ebay's officially closed the case, no possibility of reopening it (great reason to shun ebay, when possible), and the seller apparently didn't agree (I heard from nobody).

Today I dispute the charge with my credit card company, after all they were party to the transaction through Paypal. They immediately granted my request, the charge is being reversed. How that works for the seller, I have no idea but I'm off the hook. Wacky shit.

I had the same thing happen to me last Saturday! The guy showed up late in the afternoon claiming he had came by several times already! He needed a signature, but instead took a picture of me with my package and went on his way! No signature!!
I was ready for that, just a thought, why can't he just take my picture from 20 feet and we're safe? Instead, he just walked away... it was totally dark anyway, I had the door open.

I've always heard that but seldom took advantage of it. In fact I've heard numerous times that some CCs extend your warranties, but I've never looked into that. I really should.

Here in Germany (probably elsewhere too), parcel delivery service companies often only pretend to deliver, in order to minimize their cost. Here is an example of what they do, probably especially with shipments to residential areas:

They drop a notice into the letterbox that the recipient wasn't available at time of delivery, and deliver to an affiliated drop-off point instead. They don't ring the doorbell, they just claim that you weren't there.

I didn't recall whether UPS is one of these cheap services. But today I was reminded that they are indeed. This stole a few hours of my time.

I mean, they could simply be honest and say upfront at their tracking website that they will not deliver to the designated address and will divert the parcel to the drop-off point instead. But I guess their management figured that actively lying to customers of their customers is a better business strategy compared to being honest.
